Perhaps, the minds of Elizabeth and Zechariah were loaded with many names to choose, but their faith in God singled out the name JOHN, which means “God’s gift.” Understanding then the significance of the name, we can comprehend the reason why Elizabeth and Zechariah gave the name “JOHN” for their only son. John’s birth was a divine expression of God’s graciousness to Zechariah and Elizabeth in their old age. John was not only a gift of God to Elizabeth and Zechariah, but to the world as well. They could love him, but they cannot own his heart, so John dedicated his heart for Jesus. They could advise him, but they could not tell him what to say, so John testified for Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sing of the world” (JN 1:29). They could offer him a home, but the desert became his home, and he lived in the desert and telling the people who come to him, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (MT 3:2). Although our name is not John, we are also God’s gifts to one another and to the world. We can offer also ourselves for the service of the Church. If Zechariah’s mouth opened and his tongue freed, even us – that miracle can happen to us right now. God is giving us a spiritual mouth, so that like Zechariah, we will always become the source of good news to the poor, homeless, immigrants and the hungry. Our character is reflected in our words and our word is our honor. Remember this: “What you are is God’s gift to you; what you can become is your gift to God”. So, be witnesses of Jesus and say to the world: “Repent and believe in the Good News!” Now, start witnessing, “walk the talk!” God bless you all! Fr. Romeo N. Seleccion, MS, Pastor

OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.

Dear Holy People of God:

“Happy birthday, John!” We gather today to celebrate the SOLEMNITY of the BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST! For Jesus, he greets his cousin this way: “I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John” (LK 7:28).

After John’s birth, today’s gospel has this theatrical account of choosing his name, it says:

… they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John”. But they answered her , “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “JOHN is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God.

Perhaps, the minds of Elizabeth and Zechariah were loaded with many names to choose, but their faith in God singled out the name JOHN, which means “God’s gift.”

Understanding then the significance of the name, we can comprehend the reason why Elizabeth and Zechariah gave the name “JOHN” for their only son. John’s birth was a divine expression of God’s graciousness to Zechariah and Elizabeth in their old age.

John was not only a gift of God to Elizabeth and Zechar iah, but to the wor ld as well. They could love him, but they cannot own his heart, so John dedicated his heart for Jesus. They could advise him, but they could not tell him what to say, so John testified for Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sing of the world” (JN 1:29). They could offer him a home, but the deser t became his home, and he lived in the desert and telling the people who come to him, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (MT 3:2).

So, be witnesses of Jesus and say to the world: “Repent and believe in the Good News!” Now, start witnessing, “walk the talk!”

God bless you all!

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Pope Francis said: “God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it. And a spark of divine light is within each of us.”

Sometimes situations and decisions from the past can make us feel disconnected and alone. If you have emotional or spiritual wounds as a result of a past abortion, please consider attend-ing our upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat July 6-8, 2018. It’s an opportunity for women and men to experience God’s love and mercy as He touches each wound with his heal-ing grace. Lives are restored and peace is found. Participation is strictly confidential.

For more information, contact Mary Huber at 475-5353 or email [email protected] or visit the website Rachelsvineyard.org.
