Page 7: St. Paul’s Church Newslettersaintpauldartmouth.weebly.com/.../15670310/newsletter_23.pdf · 2019-10-28 · St. Paul’s Church Newsletter Issue #23 May 1 – June 30, 2015 Yochoff,

ANNIVERSARY - on May 20, 2015, I observed the 53rd anniversary of my Ordination. I was ordained by Archbishop Gerald Berry in St. Mary’s Basilica with three others: Fr. Robert Hallett, whose first appointment was to St. Paul Parish as assistant to Fr. Michael Laba; Fr. Robert McDougall, appointed to Immaculate Conception Parish in Truro; and Fr. Basic Carew, appointed with me to St. Patrick Parish in Halifax. Frs. Hallett, McDougall and Carew have passed to their eternal reward. May they rest in peace.

I have served in many parishes in the Archdiocese. As you know, in July 1999, I was appointed pastor of St. Paul Parish, a ministry I held until my “retirement” on July 31, 2006.

Since then, I have been doing “fill-in” ministry - two afternoons weekly at Halifax Infirmary (Sacrament of the Sick). When Deacon Brian Smith became administrator of St. Paul, I offered to celebrate Mass on Tuesdays, Thursdays, First Fridays, special feasts and holidays – as well as funeral Masses. I am doing the same under the administration of Deacon Robert Doyle.

It seems I can’t get away from you! As long as my health and age permit (I’ll be 82 on June 30th), I hope to continue. How blessed I am. St. Paul Parish will always be special to me.

May God continue to bless your Parish now and in the years to come.

THE STARFISH POEM

A little boy walked carefully along a crowded beach Where starfish by the hundreds lay there within his reach. They washed up with each wave as far as the eye could see And each would surely die if they weren’t sent back to sea.

So one by one he rescued them, then heard a stranger call, “It really won’t make much difference…for you cannot save them all” But he tossed but another one back towards the ocean’s setting sun, He said with deep compassion, “I made a difference to that one”.
