New Sunday school classes will begin in January. St. Paul’s will be moving the contemporary worship service to the 11:00 hour beginning January 6. (Traditional worship will also continue to take place at the 11:00 hour.) This will enable all of us to have ONE common Sunday School hour. With this in mind, we will be creating two new classes for “College and Careers” and “Young Adults.” If you have any questions about these classes, or any existing Sunday school classes, please contact Jill Mouk [email protected] or at the church office. Also beginning in January, the leadership of St. Paul’s will be asking all of the adult Sunday school classes to teach the SAME curriculum for 8 weeks. The curriculum is entitled “Christian to the Core.” Dr. Neustifter and Rev. Chad Brooks will be preaching from this same curriculum. We hope that this united focus will enable each of us to grow closer to God through study and worship.

Dear Friends,

In my military career, I think and act according to the US Air Force core values: integrity first, ser-vice before self, and excellence in all that we do. Core values are emotionally charged state-ments that engage our hearts and minds and help define our real self. As Christians, we, too, should live by a set of core values that guide our thoughts and behavior. Have you thought about what your core values are? Do you live those values every day? As the community of faith called St. Paul’s UMC, do we have a set of core values that govern our mission and actions?

Beginning January 6, we will all spend several months learning about, talking about, and thinking about Christian core values in worship and in Sunday School. We will be using the “Christian to the Core” curriculum. This curriculum is designed to help you become a deeper disciple “by in-creasing your intimacy with God, increasing your love for people, and discovering God’s greater purposes for your life.” I hope you will make plans to fully participate in this process by attending worship and Sunday School each week. (If you are not currently attending Sunday School, now would be an excellent time to join.) I hope you will discuss the eight core values in your homes with your families. Let’s begin to clarify what our core values are. My hope is that once we, as individuals, know what values speak to us, then we can begin a discussion of what the core values of St. Paul’s are. And that should lead to a greater focus on how we can best share the news of the living Christ and be in mission to each other, our community, and the world.

Peace, my friends… Tim

UMW December Meetings Harmony Circle - will meet in the home of Betty Ann Nolan, 1806 Emerson, on Thursday, January 17 at 6:30. Following a light supper, Mary Lou Blakeman will lead a new study of Linda Dillow's book, Calm My Anxious Heart. It is filled with encouragement and help for overcoming anxiety and tells us what the Bible says about how to experience contentment in our daily lives. Joy Circle - will meet Tuesday January 8 at 6:00pm in the parlor. Julie Blakeman is hostess and Jill Mouk will have the lesson. Circle of Friends Circle - We will continue to meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays in the Parlor at 5pm, but we are about to go through exciting transitions as we begin to focus on what it means to be a part of UMW. We are also hoping to reach out to other young women of St. Paul's to start their own circles or join us in different areas of mission. Mary Henry Circle—Due to a conflict, the Mary Henry Circle will meet on Tuesday, January

29, at 9:30. Please note the change in schedule.

THE UMW Reading Program The UMW Reading Program collection has doubled in size for this year. Twenty-two new books have been added to our collection. All UMW members are encouraged to read—as few or as many as they desire—then fill out and turn in a record of what they have read. For those who wish to fulfill the requirements for a specific Reading Plan, there are issues of both response and World Outlook available. The UMW library is located in a cabinet in the church library.

Our UMM cooked and served around 167

servings to the people at the

DeSiard Street Mission in December.

Won’t you help this month?

Glenn Jordan, the 2012 president of St. Paul’s chapter of the UMM, offi-cially presented a check

to the Louisiana Meth-odist Children’s Home in Ruston on December 9, 2012. The check of

$21,890 was the money raised by the UMM at

their Annual Family To-Do At the Zoo.

On Sunday, December 9, the Confirmation class met

for their lesson on missions and outreach. Kathy Wells, chair of St. Paul’s Missions Committee, met

with the class to talk to them about what our church does to serve others in our community, our state, and

even the world. Following a short lesson taught by Jill

Mouk, the sixth graders prepared 100 bags for

our Meals on Wheels delivery and then helped Kathy organize the items collected for our Angel Tree.

Club 56 Christmas Party The 5th and 6th graders from St. Paul’s celebrated Christmas

early this year with their annual gift exchange party on Sunday,

Dec. 2. Twenty-six young people

shared snacks and fellowship and then participated in the game.

Everyone had a great time!
