Volume 13 Issue 7 Summer Time July 2017 OUR MISSION STATEMEN OUR MISSION STATEMENT St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chittenango, New York exists to restore all people to unity with each other and with God in Jesus Christ. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chittenango, New York The Good News Well summer is finally here. The children are out of school, and one more graduation; my Great Grandson will graduate tonight. I know a lot of you will be attending one too. We had six graduates from our church last Sunday along with the usual Father’s Day Strawberry Sundae event. We will be having our church picnic on July 30, 2017 at Father Leon’s house along with the folks from Fulton. Can’t wait to meet them and have a grand day. Everyone is invit- ed, and we will also have transportation for everyone who needs it. So keep that date in mind. You will be seeing some activity around the church soon as the Village is putting in a new water line for the Village. Do not be alarmed, it has nothing to do with us except that the Vestry has given our permission for them to come on our property to get this accomplished. Attendance has been growing, which makes us all very happy. Thank you Father Leon and also our own Father Charlie (what would we do without you). We all had a great time on OZ Day and we saw many old friends who stopped by our booth in the park and our food table at the church. It was great seeing you all. We missed the trains (Father Charlie was not well this year), just wait till next year. All in all it was a great success. So sad to say we had another passing, Father Charlie lost his son-in- law this past week and we send our deepest sympathy to his daughter Betty. Todd was well liked by everyone. I also have had some sad news; our clerk of the Vestry Amy will be leav- ing us. She does a great job and she will be greatly missed. She will be going on to bigger and better things and we wish her well. So that leaves us with a position to fill. If anyone would like to take a chance at it, please let me know. My phone number is 315-510- 3393 you may leave a message if I am not home. Remember the Vestry meets every second Thursday of the month, just to keep that in mind. Not too much more news at this time, so I will close with a note, enjoy your vacation, but be safe. If you get the chance stop by some Sunday and share our service and coffee hour, I look forward to seeing you. Old Business

OZ Fest was not as profitable as last year. Church was down $400. Possibly because of the weather and Taste of Syracuse.

More people are needed to help next year.

New Business

Joint picnic with Fr. Leon’s other church, All Saints, Fulton.

Suggestion to meet at church at 9 and carpool to Fr. Leon Mozeliak’s residence where the picnic will be held. A

bus was suggested for easier transport.

Asked for parishioners to bring a dish to pass.

Motion: To accept July 30th as the date of the joint picnic. - M/S/C: Robin Weisbrod/Sue Gerling.

A recommendation was made to purchase a new popcorn machine to replace the current one.

Motion: To look at different models to replace the current machine with a budget of $250.00 - M/S/C: Tania

Mousaw/ Robin Weisbrod.

Tania Mousaw opened discussion about finding the church door unlocked periodically.

A suggestion was made to change the locks and have a sign-out sheet. Vestry members would only have it for their

term.

Mike Furtado suggested changing the lock when construction was done on the staircase.

Members agreed to keep an eye on it in the meantime and an effort would be made to lock up valuables.

Memorial Fund and Bench

Vestry members are still looking at different options for memorials. Not all families are interested. Judy Olmsted is

to meet with new company about vestments.

A suggestion was made to look at different options for music. Tania mentioned Colleen might be available once a month to

play.

Safe church training – No courses being given at this time. A suggestion was made to find out who is trained

and host them for other churches. Fr. Leon Mozeliak is a possible trainer after being recertified.

Our Bible Study has finished with Marc and we are taking a short break from Luke & John to Study a book about the

Disciples. We will be studying Simon Peter and so on for the next two months. We will also be taking a break in

August and will resume again in September.

Fellowship – Judy Olmstead

As you all may be aware, we lost our Vestry Member for Fellowship. As I have been doing this since the first of the

year I will continue to do my best with this.

A cake was ordered for the June Birthdays and will continue to do so for the rest of the year.

Our OZ Day was a success as you can see by the report. I want to also state that we did not do everything that we have

in the past. That being said it was still great. I would like to thank all of you who worked so hard on this and again

great job Tonia. Where would be without you. All of you have done great and please keep up the good work.

Finance – Don Lee

Finances are good

Brian did a transfer to memorial fund of $1,175.00

Finance meeting for July will be moved to later in month due to yearly audit.

Did not have update on building repairs, will be discussed at Vestry meeting.

Outreach – Tania Mousaw

Bottle Drive is July 8th.

Bread Drive is July 16th.

Sue Gerling continues with the Madison Health Dept for babies in need.

Although OZ Day was a fundraising event for St. Paul’s a lot of outreach was done in visiting with people both at the

Church Booth and the Booth in the park.

Working with Ethel on the school kit project.

Pastoral Care – Sue Gerling

It has been a busy month. Gift of Bible bought for Mike on his baptism June 4th 2017.

Judy and I were also able to purchase the gifts for our graduates. These will be given out on Fathers Day.

On June 3rd 2017 I attended Vestry Day. Our new Bishop had many interesting things to say.

#1 She wants us to get our for a service to others, sharing our faith

#2 A goal of not feeling we are in crisis mode.

#3 She is not planning on having any Church buildings close.

#4 The power of God’s spirit working, money will follow.

Canon of Ordinary - He is not a “henchman”. He is here to help solve problems. He is the Bishop’s right hand person

Canon Carrie Scholfield Broadbent is trying to let all churches know that no church is without a priest. There is no priest

shortage, however many need full time positions with benefits which many churches can’t afford. She wants to be

called whenever we have questions about many different things. There was much more information shared. If

you have any questions come and see me.

Worship – Ed Hoffman

No report.

Closing Prayer: Ed Hoffman

Meeting adjourned: 8:09 PM

Motion to adjourn- M/S/C: Sue Gerling/Robin Weisbrod

Next Meeting: July 13, 2017

Respectfully Submitted,

Amy Dieffenbacher

at Madison County Dept. of Health How can we thank you enough for all the beautiful things you sent for our Madison County babies! We so appreciate this and are so overcome with your generosity. You are a blessing to us all! Thank you.

Barb Whaley, RN As always, we really appreciate all the great baby items you have donated to us. This time and every other what wonderful stuff – the beautiful clothes and blankets! Thank you! We with pride give it to those who need it the most.

Molly Lembert, RN

Thank you for all your acts of love and sup-

port when our son-in-law Todd Wood died.

Thank you for your prayers and presence,

kind words and cards, for a beautiful funer-

al service, and hospitality and generosity of

the reception. On behalf of our daughter,

Betty Wood, and the extended Wood family,

we offer you deepest gratitude.

— Joan and Charles Grover

From the desk of Tania Mousaw:

The lawn areas both front and back have been graded, topsoil added, seeded and covered

with a biodegradable screen of straw. This was finished today with efforts to take ad-

vantage of the upcoming rains. Once we have solid grass, we simply have to mow!!

The parking lot will be repaved on the first "no rain day". (Which could delay that part

for another week or two!! )

DPW plans to return next year to bring more fill for middle of lawn area they expect

will settle quite a bit.

Anyway, all is good for St Paul's. As they say God always rewards good deeds.

I’ve been called to a year of service in the Phil-ippines and I’d like you to be a part of it! The Young Adult Service Corps, or YASC for short, is a missionary program through the Episcopal Church. YASC integrates young adults into the work of the greater Anglican Communion and the daily lives of local communities across the globe. I am excited to be set on this path. The truth is that a great many things have brought me to this crossroads and helped me discern if this is right for me. The most influential experiences regarding this choice were my experiences as an ex-change student, my youth group’s mission trip to Costa Rica, and the summers I spent as camp counselor with Living Water Minis-tries. The Young Adult Service Corps, or YASC for short, is a missionary program through the Episcopal Church. YASC inte-grates young adults into the work of the greater Anglican Communion and the daily lives of local communities across the globe. As a part of this experience, I will be keeping an online blog with updates every few months. The blog will be written via a blogspot web address, whose URL will be made known once created. Missionary work with the Episcopal Church in the Philippines centers on Asset Based Com-munity Development.

This concept focuses on identifying the re-sources already in the community and using them to work toward a shared community vi-sion. Then receivers become givers, sharing their gifts with other communities in need. It is my hope that you want to share in this journey with me. If this is true, there are a few ways you can contribute: The first of which is as easy as can be; simply keep me in your thoughts and prayers. If you’re looking for something more active, I am in need of patronage and would appreciate your sup-port. To make a tax-deductible donation, please make checks payable to St. Peter's Episcopal Church with YASC in the memo line and send them to: St. Peter's Episcopal Church 10 Mill Street Cazenovia, NY 13035 $27.40 covers a day, $191.78 covers a week, and $833.33 covers a month of my year of ser-vice.
