IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Going Greener The end of the bulk mailed newsletter

In continuing efforts to be good stewards of our environment and of our financial resources, the Church Council has decided that we will no longer distribute newsletters by bulk mail. This newsletter (March) is being delivered both by mail and electronically (email) so you know what to expect, but future newsletters will be distributed ONLY electronically. We see this as an excellent opportunity for the congregation to be more responsible with our financial resources by taking a tiny bit of additional personal responsibility in accessing the newsletter contents. If you are reading this on a copy you received in the mail and DID NOT receive a copy electronically, please contact the church office ASAP with your email address so we can add you to the electronic distribution. Of course, printed copies of the newsletter will be available at church for pick up if that is your preference. In the event that you do not have access to email and it is inconvenient for you to pick up a copy in person, please contact the church office so we can accommodate your needs. As always, we welcome any and all comments, and look forward to all input.

Newsletter Submissions Please help us be more efficient in producing the newsletter by following the Article Submission guidelines detailed inside the front cover.

Time for Change I have completed my fifth year as president of this congregation. For me it has been a great blessing and an outstanding opportunity to serve. I have been blessed to be in the midst of innumerable bold changes that this congregation has embraced, and have been blessed for my small part in the leadership role this congregation has taken in the Minneapolis Synod. In the same way that much of whom we are and what we are about benefits from continuing change, our leadership also needs to be refreshed and renewed. Our blessings abound as Pat Tollefson has volunteered to step forward and serve as our next Congregational President. I am very excited to see her leadership style and passion imprint the next chapter of our ministry. Pat has invited me to continue sharing fragments from my journey in this space. The title will just be changed from “A message from our President”, to something like “Ramblings from Just a Guy y’know”. When you see Pat, congratulate her and thank her, and bless her. When you see bold changes coming from your congregational leadership, join me in the excitement and recognition that THIS IS the time for change. Pray for Pat as she embraces and engages in this new and very important role in our congregation. PRAISE THE LORD! Blessings, Vince Jacobson

Sanctuary Update

At our Annual Meeting of the Congregation on Jan. 29, it was approved that we would begin a redesign project of the Sanctuary as soon as we had the funding. See floor plan on opposite page.

Exciting news!! Thanks to the generosity of so many people we have the funds that we need to complete the first phase of our sanctuary design project! Sunday, Feb. 26 was our last service in the sanctuary for approximately 8 weeks. Of course, the more help we get the faster it will go... volunteers are needed. Sunday, Mar. 4 we will begin worshiping in the Fellowship Hall on the lower level.

(Entrance to sanctuary)

Model available for viewing in the library.

Session IV of Creative Expression will meet every Wednesday evening April 18 – May 23 5:30 – 7:00 PM. A light supper will be served. Registration forms are available through the church office.

St Paul’s With Out Walls Community Gardens

The winter that isn’t will soon become the spring that is-- a yearly Easter Moment. A rebirth of flowers, sunshine, hope and vegetables is awaiting all. Yes, soon will be the time for St Paul’s With Out Walls Community Gardens. You may begin to reserve your garden box March 1st . Please reserve only one box per person by calling or emailing the church office. St Paul’s gardeners who participated last year may wish to reserve their same garden box. On March 22 nd, boxes not reserved will be offered to the community at large. Six (6) new or existing boxes will be reserved for youth gardens. After April 26 th, garden boxes that are not spoken for will become available for those who would like to plant more than one box. A reminder to last year’s gardeners: as weather permits, please clean or compost last year’s plants that were left behind. May your gardens flourish, and remember to donate your first fruits to ICA.

What is Empty Bowls? Since its small beginnings in 1990, Empty Bowls has become an international grassroots project to raise funds for local food shelves. John Hartom and Lisa Blackburn, two high school art teachers at Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, realized that their annual fooddrive was attracting few donations. They asked their students to make ceramic bowls to be used at a luncheon for the school staff. Every guest chose a bowl, ate a simple meal of donated soup and bread, and made a generous donation to their local food shelf. Everyone kept their bowl as a reminder of all the

empty bowls in their own community and throughout the world.

Our community is hosting its 14th annual fundraiser for ICA Foodshelf and ResourceWest , inviting everyone to come to the Hopkins Center for the Arts on Tuesday, March 13 to choose a bowl from among 1000 bowls created by local artists and students, eat a simple meal of soup and bread with your neighbors, enjoy local entertainment, and make a generous free will donation. You can also bid on a unique fine art bowl in the silent auction.
