Community Building at the Collaborativeby Fr. Peter
Someone recently asked, “What are you doing at your parish-es to build community?” In answering this question it oc-curred to me that the communities of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Monica-St. Augustine, and St. Peter Lithuanian have been do-ing quite a bit to build community. We just this week wrapped up part one of a Bible study course that was very well attended, exploring the Gospel of St. John. Classes will resume in mid-January. And the Spanish-speaking community of St. Monica-St. Augustine’s, the Lithu-anian community of St. Peter’s, and the English-speaking communities of St. Vincent’s, St. Peter’s and St. Monica-St. Au-gustine’s, have just had a number of Lenten days and eve-nings of recollection and penance. And we have another awesome one, coming up this Thursday night, the 20th, at St. Peter’s at 7 pm, where we can enter into much needed peace and serenity before the Lord, led by Dcn. Paul Kline. On Saturday, December 1st and 15th we had/are having Peace Breakfasts at St. Monica’s which were open to the entire community. The 15th is our Peace Breakfast Christmas Party. (For those reading the hard copy of the bulletin, this event just took place.) And take a look further in this bulletin at the great pictures from our St. Peter Lithuanian Children’s Mass that was held on December 9th! On Sunday, December 16th, at the 9 am St. Vincent de Paul Mass, we are having our Good Samaritan Ministry Volunteer Appreciation Mass, where we acknowledge the many women and men who have loved God by loving their neighbor, and showing kindness and compassion to strangers without ques-tion or hesitation. This is being followed by a light reception in the lower church hall following the mass. On Monday, December 17th, at 6:30 pm, we are showing the Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life at St. Peter’s. Yes. We are trying to build community and are open to doing even more to share God’s goodness with friend and stranger alike as we enter the Season of Christmas and New Year to-gether!
