RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education Program is open from 9:30AM to 2:00PM, Monday thru Thursday and Monday thru Wednesday nights 6:00PM – 8:30PM. Please call 429-8824 for more information. There was a First Communion meeting for parents in English and Spanish. If you did not attend any of these meetings, you need to go to the office to pick up an important packet that is due January 5th, 2016. We will have no class and our office will be closed starting Wednesday, December 23rd to January 3rd. Classes will begin again and our office will be open on Monday, January 4th. Please continue praying for our students.
From Rockland Right to Life Very soon we’ll be posting all the information you’ll need about our annual trip to the 2016 March for Life against abortion, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 22, this year. We’ve already reserved three charter buses. But right now we want to give you a heads up that there will be a new policy in place: EVERYONE MUST RESERVE A SEAT AND PAY BEFORE THE TRIP. WE MUST RECEIVE YOUR CHECK BY JAN. 13. The seats are $30 for adult; $15 for child. Clergy ride free, but you still must make a reservation so we know you’re coming.

FUNDRAISING IN ST. PETER AND ST. MARY PARISH
Our campaign to raise money for the repair and restoration of our church ventilator windows was very successful. All agree that the windows look beautiful; we can imagine how wonderful it would be for all of our windows to be repaired and restored. There were other projects that we were able to complete from parish savings. These included painting the exterior of the church; painting the inside of the middle church entrance; re-paving the large school parking lot; replacing the air conditioner on the school gym roof and installing a new roof on the school gymnasium. The cost of these projects has exhausted our parish savings, but we will have an opportunity in 2016 to raise money for projects that we have talked and dreamed about: repairing and restoring our church pews; replacing our church floor; restoring the Pentecost mural above the altar. The opportunity comes through the Rejoice and Renew Campaign for the restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. How can this benefit us if its purpose in to help in the restoration of the Cathedral? The answer is in the fundraising formula. Our parish will be able to keep 75% of the monies that we raise. That is correct: 75%; 25% will go to the Cathedral fund and other Archdiocesan needs. And since we have completed many important projects in the past year, we can focus on needs that all of us agree are important to our parish. St. Peter – St. Mary Parish will begin the Rejoice and Renew Campaign after Easter. Please pray for its success here.

CAMPANA PRO FONDOS DE LA PARROQUIA SAN PEDRO Y SANTA MARIA
Nuestra campaña pro fondos para la restauración de los ventiladores de las ventanas fue muy exitosa. Todos estamos de acuerdo que las ventanas quedaron muy bonitas, imagínense cuan bonito seria el reparar y restaurar todas las ventanas. Había otros proyectos que teníamos que completar con los ahorros de la parroquia. Entre estos se encuentra el pintar el exterior de la iglesia, pintar el interior de la entrada del medio de la iglesia, pavimentar el estacionamiento grande de la escuela, reemplazar el aire acondicionado del gimnasio y poner un techo Nuevo en el gimnasio de la escuela. El costo de estos proyectos ha agotado los ahorros de la parroquia, pero tenemos una oportunidad en el 2016 de colectar dinero para proyectos de los que hemos hablado y soñado realizar: reparar y restaurar los asientos de la iglesia, reemplazar el piso de la iglesia, restaurar el mural de Pentecostés que esta sobre el altar. La oportunidad se presenta a través de la Campana Goza y Renueva para la restauración de la Catedral de San Patricio. ¿Como nos beneficiaria a nosotros si su propósito fue la restauración de la Catedral de San Patricio? La respuesta está en la fórmula utilizada en la campaña. Nuestra parroquia puede quedarse con el 75% del dinero colectado. Es lo correcto, 75%, 25% ira para la catedral para financiar otros proyectos Arquidiocesanos. Como ya hemos completado otros proyectos importantes el año pasado, podemos en necesidades con las que todos estamos de acuerdo son importantes para nuestra parroquia. La Parroquia San Pedro y Santa María comenzará su campaña de Gozo y Renovación después de la Pascua de Resurrección. Favor de ponernos en oración por el éxito de este proyecto aquí.
POPE FRANCIS BEGINS THE YEAR OF MERCY This Extraordinary Year is itself a gift of grace. To pass through the Holy Door means to rediscover the infinite mercy of the Father who welcomes everyone and goes out personally to encounter each of them. It is he who seeks us! It is he who comes to encounter us! This will be a year in which we grow ever more convinced of God’s mercy. How much wrong we do to God and his grace when we speak of sins being punished by his judgment before we speak of their being forgiven by his mercy (cf. Saint Augustine, De Praedestinatione Sanctorum, 12, 24)! But that is the truth. We have to put mercy before judgment, and in any event God’s judgement will always be in the light of his mercy. In passing through the Holy Door, then, may we feel that we ourselves are part of this mystery of love, of tenderness. Let us set aside all fear and dread, for these do not befit men and women who are loved. Instead, let us experience the joy of encountering that grace which transforms all things. Today, here in Rome and in all the dioceses of the world, as we pass through the Holy Door, we also want to remember another door, which fifty years ago the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council opened to the world. This anniversary cannot be remembered only for the legacy of the Council’s documents, which testify to a great advance in faith. Before all else, the Council was an encounter. A genuine encounter between the Church and the men and women of our time. An encounter marked by the power of the Spirit, who impelled the Church to emerge from the shoals which for years had kept her self-enclosed so as to set out once again, with enthusiasm, on her missionary journey. It was the resumption of a journey of encountering people where they live: in their cities and homes, in their workplaces. Wherever there are people, the Church is called to reach out to them and to bring the joy of the Gospel, and the mercy and forgiveness of God. After these decades, we again take up this missionary drive with the same power and enthusiasm. The Jubilee challenges us to this openness, and demands that we not neglect the spirit which emerged from Vatican II, the spirit of the Samaritan, as Blessed Paul VI expressed it at the conclusion of the Council. May our passing through the Holy Door today commit us to making our own the mercy of the Good Samaritan.

CHANGES IN OUR MASS SCHEDULE
The New Year, 2016, will see changes in our Mass schedule. We will add Masses at 5:30PM on Wednesdays and Fridays; these Masses will be celebrated in English. Masses at 9:00AM on Wednesday and Friday will be removed from our schedule. St. Mary’s Church had offered Masses at 5:30PM from Monday through Friday. The addition of Masses at 5:30PM on Wednesdays and Fridays will continue some of that tradition and provide a service to our community. We will add a Mass in Spanish on Saturday evenings as a Sunday Vigil Mass. This will allow families and individuals the opportunity to attend Sunday Mass and have Sunday available for family or personal plans. In addition, since the 12:45PM Mass in Spanish fills the church, this change can help to reduce the attendance at this by offering our parishioners a Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday evening. These changes will be in effect until the end of June. At that time we will evaluate them and make plans for the Mass schedule for the second half of 2016. The Catholic Daughters, Court Joan of Arc #604 will hold their monthly meeting on Sunday January 3, 2015 in St. Peter’s School after the 11:15AM Mass at St. Peter – St. Mary Church.
PAPA FRANCISCO COMIENZA EL ANO DE LA MISERICORDIA
Este Año Extraordinario es también un don de gracia. Entrar por la puerta significa descubrir la profundidad de la misericordia del Padre que acoge a todos y sale personalmente al encuentro de cada uno. Es Él el que nos busca. Es Él el que sale a nuestro encuentro. Será un año para crecer en la convicción de la misericordia. Cuánto se ofende a Dios y a su gracia cuando se afirma sobre todo que los pecados son castigados por su juicio, en vez de destacar que son perdonados por su misericordia (cf. san Agustín, De praedestinatione sanctorum 12, 24) Sí, así es precisamente. Debemos anteponer la misericordia al juicio y, en cualquier caso, el juicio de Dios tendrá lugar siempre a la luz de su misericordia. Que el atravesar la Puerta Santa, por lo tanto, haga que nos sintamos partícipes de este misterio de amor. Abandonemos toda forma de miedo y temor, porque no es propio de quien es amado; vivamos, más bien, la alegría del encuentro con la gracia que lo transforma todo. Hoy, aquí en Roma y en todas las diócesis del mundo, cruzando la Puerta Santa, queremos recordar también otra puerta que los Padres del Concilio Vaticano II, hace cincuenta años, abrieron hacia el mundo. Esta fecha no puede ser recordada sólo por la riqueza de los documentos producidos, que hasta el día de hoy permiten verificar el gran progreso realizado en la fe. En primer lugar, sin embargo, el Concilio fue un encuentro. Un verdadero encuentro entre la Iglesia y los hombres de nuestro tiempo. Un encuentro marcado por el poder del Espíritu que empujaba a la Iglesia a salir de las aguas poco profundas que durante muchos años la habían recluido en sí misma, para reemprender con entusiasmo el camino misionero. Era un volver a tomar el camino para ir al encuentro de cada hombre allí donde vive: en su ciudad, en su casa, en el trabajo...; dondequiera que haya una persona, allí está llamada la Iglesia a ir para llevar la alegría del Evangelio y llevar la misericordia y el perdón de Dios. Un impulso misionero, por lo tanto, que después de estas décadas seguimos retomando con la misma fuerza y el mismo entusiasmo. El jubileo nos estimula a esta apertura y nos obliga a no descuidar el espíritu surgido en el Vaticano II, el del Samaritano, como recordó el beato Pablo VI en la conclusión del Concilio. Que al cruzar hoy la Puerta Santa nos comprometamos a hacer nuestra la misericordia del Buen Samaritano.
CAMBIOS EN NUESTRO HORARIO DE MISAS En el año nuevo, 2016, veremos cambios en nuestro horario de misas. Añadiremos misas los días miércoles y viernes a las 5:30pm; estas misas se celebrarán en inglés. Las misas de las 9:00AM el miércoles y el viernes serán removidas de nuestro calendario. La Iglesia de Santa María ofrecía misas a las 5:30PM de lunes a viernes. La incorporación de las misas a las 5:30pm los miércoles y viernes seguirá algunas de esas tradiciones y ofrecerá un servicio a nuestra comunidad. Añadiremos una Misa en español los sábados por la tarde como vigilia dominical misa. Esto permitirá a las familias y a los individuos la oportunidad de asistir a la misa dominical y así tienen Domingo disponible para planes familiares o personales. Además, como durante la misa de las 12:45PM en español la iglesia se llena, este cambio puede ayudar a reducir la asistencia del domingo y les da la opción a nuestros feligreses de asistir a la misa vespertina del sábado en la noche. Estos cambios entrarán en efecto hasta finales de junio. En ese tiempo vamos a evaluar y hacer planes para el horario de las Misas para el segundo semestre del 2016. 483 St. Peter’s Church
