Policy regarding Church cancellations….

The policy for church cancellations, due to dangerous weather conditions, is

decided by the church council. Once the decision is made,

the church will list it on the answering machine, the church website and if possible the WNFM/WRDB radio station.

However, when in doubt call a Council member or Someone in the congregation.

Photos available on the website..

Bill Schuette has done a wonderful job capturing moments from the holiday season.

KFC News….

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. The Christmas program An Out of the

Box Christmas was a great success. Thank you Vicky and Kris for all your hard work and effort. Thanks Ruth

for helping with our costumes. Thanks Lorinda for helping with the Pre K and K, and thanks parents for

supporting your children.

Now moving forward; Sunday School will resume Sunday, January 11,

2015 with the Jesus and the Ten Leper. This story is about thankfulness. As

the story goes there are ten men with leprosy and all the men are healed. However, only

one returns and thanks Jesus. One of our goals will be to discuss how much God does

for us on a daily basis. Everyday God provides everything we need; food, clothing, and

a place to live. How often do we give God thanks for these gifts? We will be having a mission speaker in January or February. It will be announced in

the Church bulletin. All are welcome to attend along with our KFC Kids.

The Sunday School will be singing in church Sunday, February 15, 2015. All are

encouraged to participate.

Still need workshop leaders. Anyone who is interested please contact me in church or call 608-415-3910.

Thanks

Again thanks to those who continue to help with our kids

Simply Giving…

The Simply Giving Program is a simple way to give to St Peter’s and in giving gifts to the Lord.

With the Simply Giving Program, you may chose to give weekly or monthly or semi-monthly, with deductions coming out of your checking or savings on the days that you designate the withdrawal. You may make choices as to the amount you want to give for individual accounts; Be it the General Fund, Property & Maintenance, LSS, Missions, etc.

The form is just one page and the rest is automatically taken care of for you. All information is kept privately by those individuals involved in setting up your account.

Contact the office for an enrollment form and to answer any questions you may have. An ‘effective date’ of three weeks is allowed for the paperwork to be processed.

We encourage you to consider this way of truly giving the Biblical ‘first fruits’ to the Lord. We are sure you stewardship will be enhanced by this convenient, consistent way of giving.

2015 Offering Envelopes are at the back of the church.

Note from Mike

Well it almost 2015, where did the year go? Soon the seed catalogs will be arriving. So that

means spring is only 4 months away.

It has been a busy year at St. Peters. At the annual meeting we will be discussing whether

to do communion every Sunday or leave it like it is. We will also be discussing and voting on the

parsonage remolding project. If you would like something on the agenda for the annual meeting

let me know by January 5, 2015. Or if you have questions or concerns let me or a council member

know.

Luke 2:11 Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Your friend in Christ

Mike

(Jesus – Others – You) To Proclaim Christ’s Love in the World with “Joy”

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you always!

Whew! Now we can all breathe a heavy sigh of relief. The rush of expectation to Christmas 2014 is over.

Time to take the tree down, remove the Nativity, put away the Christmas decorations that have been all over the

house, and get on with living our lives.

But wait! There are the after Christmas sales to get to, the NFL playoff games to watch, the New Year’s

parties and aftermaths to ponder, and all of those other things that we just did not have time to get done during the

December rush that we now want to accomplish. Sometimes it seems like there are just not enough hours in the

day, days in the week, and weeks in the year. Doesn’t it ever end? Doesn’t time ever slow down? Sometimes life’s

ride is just too fast, and we want to get off the carousel. But there are still things to do, things that we want (not

necessarily ‘need’) to get done. There are expectations that we have to fulfill, obligations to which to attend, and

‘wants’ that constantly arise.

Or should they?

What are the real important things that matter? What are the priorities which rule our lives? If we take a

look at the previous two sentences, I think that in many cases the answers to those two questions are different, and

that should give us pause. And if the answers are the same, then one is either entirely well grounded, or entirely out

of balance.

If the important things are really the important things (God, family, friends, taking care of the neighbor who

is in need) and they are the priorities that rule our lives, then I think we can consider ourselves on the right track.

If, however, the really important things to us that matter are other than God, family, friends, and taking care

of the neighbor who is in need, and those things, whatever they are, become our priorities, then I think that we may

be tending towards that which keeps us out of balance.

I think though, that we all want to be trending toward the ‘well-grounded’ side of the spectrum. I think that

no one deliberately tries to get themselves oriented toward the ‘out of balance’ side of the sliding scale. It just kind

of happens to us.

And maybe now, with the New Year before us, it is an appropriate time for us to reexamine what our ‘wants’

and ‘needs’ are, and decide between which of those two things we place as a priority.

It is relatively easy to determine the difference between a ‘want’ and a ‘need.’

‘Needs’ are that which we must have in our lives to fulfill our various vocations, and especially our

vocations as Christians: God, love of self, love of others, family, comporting ourselves in ways that give support,

honor, and love to our neighbor, nourishment, shelter, clothing, and things of that nature.

‘Wants’ are just what they say they are. They are not necessary or part and parcel of a Christ-centered life.

But they are those things which can tend to pull us out of balance and remove our focus from those things that

matter, namely God, love of self, love of others, family, and tending to the neighbor who is in need.

A bone of contention between Betty and I is that I really want a motorcycle. I had a bike when I was in

Germany, and I just delighted in riding it all over the countryside. But the truth of the matter is that I got tired of

people pulling out in front of me to the point where I had to stand on that rear brake, and people opening car doors in

front of me. But the truth is, I really don’t need a motorcycle. I just want one. It will not necessarily help me on

my Christian journey, nor will it influence my salvation (which has been assured through Christ’s atoning death on

the cross and His subsequent resurrection) it would just be a lot of fun, if it isn’t snowing or raining, or the deer

aren’t too eager to cross the road in front of me.

So what are the ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ in your life? In this upcoming New Year I am going to focus more on

trying, with God’s help, to discern the difference, and conduct my life accordingly. I pray for all of your

discernment in contemplating the same thing.

God’s Peace be with you all.

Pastor Don
