THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL

Confiteor—”I confess to almighty God…”

Current: ‘I confess through my own fault”, New: “Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.” We will now repeat it three times while striking our breasts in a sign of repentance, This thrice repetition gives a fuller expression of sorrow for our sins. It is a strong reminder that all sin offends God and that we must take responsibility for sinning in our thoughts, words, deeds, and for the good things we have failed to do. The purpose of this prayer is to help us cultivate an attitude of remorse for our sins and humble acknowledgement that we are in need of God’s mercy.

Registration for all Religious Education Classes will close on Friday, September 2nd & will resume on Monday, September 26th. Any registration not received by September

2nd will incur a $10 late fee.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 13290: Membership - Please mark your calendar for October 4th, a Tuesday evening and our council social meeting. You are encouraged to invite a non member to a steak dinner and a short presentation of “Who We Are and What We Do. A chance to meet members and to have questions about the K of C answered. ... Meetings - None scheduled for this week. ... SpotLite - This week we are featuring information on our Family Activities. Our Order was founded on the notion of the importance of securing the family unit and to protect a widow from loosing her children to state run orphanages or foster homes due to the lack of required funds by the State of Connecticut. Thus Fr. Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus to develop an insurance fund for such circumstances. Yes, we were founded in part as a Fraternal Catholic Family Men’s Service Order. Today, the Knights have one of the top 5 insurance companies in the United States. At the State level our State of Maryland family support charity fund helps those in need of a “Bridge” back to normal living. At the council level we have our own Charity Corporation and Grand Knight Discretionary fund to help our members and we also sponsor family events for our parishioners such as our Monthly Dances, the Valentine’s Day Social, our Family of the Month honoree program, our “MaryGold” flower hand outs on Mother’s Day, and we support “Mary’s House” helping young mothers to develop a sense of family life with their new born child. We also participate in “Rebuilding Together” which helps needy families in need of home repairs. SOCK HOP: The Ladies’ Auxiliaries of our Knights of Columbus and those of the Knights at St. Katharine Drexel in Frederick are cosponsoring a sock Hop for the benefit of both parishes. See the flyer in today’s bulletin. PARISH NURSE NOTES: Risk for Dehydration “… I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children. They will thrive like watered grass, like willows on a riverbank.” Isaiah 44:3b, 4 NLT The elderly have a high risk for dehydration since the aging process decreases their sense of thirst. They live alone, eat poorly and either forget to drink or have no desire for fluid refreshment. As bodily functions change and chronic conditions like diabetes and kidney disease develop, their ability to conserve water also changes. One side effect of dehydration can be confusion due to changes in fluid volume and chemical imbalances. Monitor the elderly, be creative, and see that they have adequate fluid. Try setting a thermal mug of ice water or lemonade next to them – whatever they like to drink , but not caffeine – it dehydrates!! Marybeth Terrell, [email protected] THANK YOU to all who donated blood at the Libertytown Fire Hall, August 23rd. God Bless You!
