Art Exhibition & Spring Braai And so, with us celebrating Heritage month and a very successful Art Exhibition it is fitting for me to thank the St Peter’s family, staff and sponsors for a wonderful evening. It was exciting to see the parents get very passionate while bidding for their children’s art.
Culture is the process by which a person becomes all that they were created and capable of being. The arts and crafts displayed, proved that the pupils of St Peter’s Mbombela have so much talent, and the holistic approach in our education allows for every individual pupil to explore and develop their talents.
Miss Diedericks thanking parents
Formal Assessments Please be reminded that the Formal Assessments are currently underway. Please ensure that your child is present the whole week. During this time, the children will be excused from all afternoon activities and must go home straight after school at 13:30 and study. All children must be collected by 13:30, there will be no homework room. All children are to attend compulsory sport between 12:30 - 13:30
(Swimming, Athletics, Mini-Tennis, etc.)
I will be away; attending the Heads Conference in Port Elizabeth next week (Monday 15 – Friday 19 September). Conferences are essential in that they offer us an opportunity to reflect, gather new ideas and network with other people. In my absence, Mrs Gilday (our Deputy Head) will shoulder the overall responsibility and she will be ably assisted by the different Heads of Department. I know that you will give Mrs Gilday and the other members of our Exco your full support throughout the week.

Please do homework with your child. Check
your child’s homework and sign it. It is important to
do homework with your child so you can see what
they are busy with in class and whether they
understand the work. Maybe you are able to give

LEARNING SUPPORT
Breakfast:
Your child’s concentration and focus can be dramatically
enhanced by giving him or her a proper breakfast. A
proper breakfast should consist of protein such as eggs,
meat, or even leftover stew. Fruit and or yoghurt are also
good. With all the assessments around the corner, give
your child the maximum benefit by ensuring they have a
good, healthy breakfast. Cereals DO NOT fuel the brain
as it contains too much sugar. Sugar reduces
concentration.
After all, not only cars need fuel to function properly – brains need fuel too! Mrs Kim de Beer
SENIOR PHASE We are close to the end of yet another term and therefore time to spend some time with our children. Sometimes we notice that something does not feel right with a child but we get distracted. We are all very busy, it’s true. We have great pressures and responsibilities pulling us in too many directions. The child who seems a little ‘off’, not himself, snappy or more quiet than usual is trying to tell us something. But it is easy to tuck this information away in a back pocket and only realize that something is wrong when a crisis occurs. We then think back and recognize that the signs were there, we were just too preoccupied to pay attention. Don’t allow problems with your child to fester and grow. Open your eyes and observe if a child seems sad, withdrawn, distant, more moody than usual, or angry. Recognize if there seems to be greater confrontation between this child and siblings, if friends stop calling or coming over, or if the child can’t seem to find his place in school. Because before you know it, half the year can go by and what could have been a small problem has now become a ‘situation’ that requires major time and investment and causes terrible aggravation. I urge all parents to make use of our open door policy and to approach the teachers if you feel that your child needs support at school. Mrs Michéle Gilday
