Proclaim the Greatness of the Lord…
Dear Friends:
Today the Church continues the Christmas Season as we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. We are reminded of the arrival of the “Three Kings” who present-ed their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. But more than that, we celebrate their recognition of the Messiah who had come into the world. In fact, sometimes on this Feast we also think of other times Jesus’ Divinity was re-vealed. For example, we remember how Jesus performed his first miracle at the wedding at Cana… thus demonstrating his Divinity as the Son of God. Third, today is a good day to reflect on other places where we find Christ around us. Sometimes, the most plain and “ordinary” things around us can remind us of God in our midst… we just need to remind ourselves to look!
Tomorrow, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, is the “official” end to the Christ-mas Season. The calendar was so odd this year, it’s been hard to keep everything straight. I know that many, myself included, are ready to get the “regular” routine going again. But we should always remember to keep Christmas joy in our hearts. Finally, I want to extend my deep appreciation to those who extended kindnesses to me during the Christmas Season. It is very much appreciated. And, guess what… Ash Wednesday is only 5 weeks from Wednesday!
These unusually cold days… especially their duration… has been a great challenge for our boiler-based heat in the church. At times, the church is colder than we want. But there isn’t much more that we can do with the system we have. Thanks for your patience with this as we look for solutions.
Here’s a little update on two of our projects at the parish. First, the Tiger Room project continues. We continue to seek grants and other financial sources so that we can begin renovation and progress with our plans. We even have some that may be interested in leasing some space which will help make the entire project self-sustaining. Second, we are close to completing the renovations needed for the radio studio that will be used by Holy Family Radio. This project is also funded by pri-vate donors. The radio station is located near the adoration chapel, and will have its own secure entrances. The studio has been made sound-proof to block out sounds from the outside hallway. When the project is complete, we certainly will provide an opportunity for our parishioners to see the radio studio. It’s an exciting oppor-tunity for our parish; and a great tool for evangelization, too!
I’d like to make a “call out” to parishioners who may like to serve as lectors, ushers, or extraordinary ministers of holy communion. As time goes on, some people in-volved with these “ministries” need to drop out for one reason or another. Or, some find the need to volunteer a little bit less. That leaves a number of dedicated parish-ioners “overused”, in a sense. Training for any of these is very simple, and in the Spring we will “commission” or “recommission” all of our people who wish to help. If you are interested, simply email me or call the parish office. As always, thanks! Have a good week, and Praised be Jesus Christ! Praised be Jesus Christ! Happy New Year! ! Fr. John

We are very fortunate to have an active and supportive K of C Council #11114 right here at St. Philip! Inter-ested in joining this awesome group of Catholic men?
