Ministry to the Infirm and Homebound: Please call JP Rodriguez at (713) 473-

9484 if you are a Minister of the Eucharist and you are also taking communion to

a person or persons that are homebound. Please have the name, address, and

phone number of the person (persons) you are visiting.

Opportunities for different ministries: We are trying to develop two different

ministries to our community. The first ministry is to create teams of volunteers

that will make home visits to infirm and homebound parishioners. This is a great

opportunity for a parent to take a preadolescent and teenage son or daughter to

visit some of our homebound brothers and sisters. Please let JP know if you are

interested.

The other ministry is for funerals. We need a team that will work with our

clergy as sacristans, servers, lectors, ministers of the Eucharist, and choir. This is

also a very important ministry. Most families cannot take charge of liturgical

needs at this time and would greatly appreciate our community providing the min-

isters we need. Other times, it is a great opportunity to evangelize as they witness

our involvement as we minister to their needs.

INVITATION: January 29th—31st, All are invited to a Pre-Lenten Mis-

sion at The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway,

of life?

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song

First Reading DT 18:15-20

Moses spoke to all the people, saying: "A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kin;

to him you shall listen. This is exactly what you requested of the LORD, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you

said, 'Let us not again hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.' And the LORD said to

me, 'This was well said. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kin, and will put my words into his mouth; he

shall tell them all that I command him. Whoever will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him

answer for it. But if a prophet presumes to speak in my name an oracle that I have not commanded him to speak, or speaks in the

name of other gods, he shall die.' "

Responsorial Psalm PS 95 R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Second Reading 1 COR 7:32-35 Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he

may please the Lord. But a married man is anxious about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, and he is divided.

An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit. A

married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. I am telling you this

for your own benefit, not to impose a restraint upon you, but for the sake of propriety and adherence to the Lord without

distraction.

Gospel MK 1:21-28

Then they came to Capernaum, and on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his

teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he

cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of

God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of

him. All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits

and they obey him." His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

¿Has venido a acabar con

nosotros?

través de Steps For Students.

P. Joe

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

St. Pius V Catholic Church January 28, 2018

Dear brothers and sisters,

This Sunday marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week 2018. The Catholic Schools in the United States are a unique

gift to the Church from generations of Catholics. No other country has a system of parish schools anything like it. Catholic

education is not only noted for excellence in instruction but also for developing in our children a genuine sense of respect,

responsibility, community, and service. The lessons children learn in Catholic Schools are lessons for life, no matter what

career choices they may make. Above all, Catholic Schools fulfill the Church’s mission of handing on the faith to future

generations. In Catholic Schools, everything is oriented towards Christ.

I urge you, as part of your own lived faith, to support our Catholic Schools, and especially our own St. Pius V Catholic

School. Explore the options for your own children to attend, encourage others to consider the benefits of a Catholic

education, and support Catholic Schools with your contributions, especially through Steps For Students. I would invite you

to join your Pastor in supporting Steps For Students by donating at http://steps4students.org/myfundraising?

kwofrid=JFABFI8 or via the parish website.

This bulletin is supported by the many businesses and individuals who have their ads published on the last page. Please

consider them first when you are looking for a product or a service. They are fellow parishioners and community members

who support St. Pius V.

If you have a business or service that you would like to promote, please call the office so that we can put you in touch with

the publisher. Javier Aguilera, a representative of Diocesan Publishing, is currently visiting the parish and would be happy

to get you started.

God bless you.

Fr. Joe
