The Epiphany of the Lord
Queridos Amigos
contratistas.
Padre Joe
Dear friends,
I will be away at Holy Name Retreat Center this week on the
annual retreat which is required of all priests and on January
17th I will leave for 10 days on a trip to the Holy Land with a
group of other priests from the Archdiocese. We will have
visiting priests for the English masses on the weekend that I
will be gone. Please pray for me both while I am on retreat and
while I am on pilgrimage. I will certainly be holding you in my
prayers.
The New Year is traditionally a time to undertake new things.
St. Pius V offers many opportunities to fulfill these New Year’s
resolutions while growing in faith and communion.
In February, we will have a discernment for those who aware of
a calling to service on the Parish Councils. Please take time to
pray about this important role in the parish. We need 2-3 new
members for each of our councils: Pastoral Council, Finance
Council, Liturgy Committee, School Board, and a new Social
Ministry Board. These positions are open to all members of the
parish 18 years of age and in communion with the Church.
We need money counters, particularly for our Sunday morning
teams which do their work in English. This is a commitment to
one or two Sunday trainings and a rotation every few weeks.
Our Spring Festival (April 23rd) will soon be upon us and the
Festival Committee needs volunteers both to help with the
Festival itself and to help with ticket sales.
During February and March we will have training for new and
old Liturgical Ministers. If you have considered serving as a
Lector, a Eucharistic Minister, a Cantor, a Sacristan, an Altar
Server, or any of the other ministries which support Liturgy,
please use the parish website to sign-up. (Use the “Participate”
button on the main page.)
Throughout this year, we will be working on various parish
projects. We want to re-launch our bookstore and gift shop and
need volunteers to handle sales for 20-30 minutes after each
Mass. We are planning a new Adoration Chapel on the site of
the old bookstore and improvements to the Shrine of Our Lady
of Guadalupe. We plan to re-locate some of the parish offices
to make them more convenient.
For all of these things we need those who are skilled in stone
and brick masonry, carpentry and woodworking. We need
landscapers and electricians. We need painters, plasterers, and
sheet-rock workers. We need engineers and builders. (Even if
you have little time to help with the work, we can use your
expert advice.) We need the skills and experience of everyone.
St. Pius V has little money, but we have been blessed with
people and talents.
The Lord has given you this New Year to be filled with
blessings. With love and gratitude, respond to His call to be
even more a part of this community gathered to serve His will.
Remember us, O God!
Bless your children at the turning of the year
and fill the months ahead with the bright hope
that is ours in the coming of Christ.
You are our God, living and reigning, forever and ever.

First Reading IS 60:1-6
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick
clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by
your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters
in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall
be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian
and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.
Responsorial Psalm PS 72 R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
Second Reading 2 EPH 3:2-3A, 5-6
Brothers and sisters: You have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for your benefit, namely, that the mystery
was made known to me by revelation. It was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy
apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ
Jesus through the gospel.
Gospel MT 2:1-12
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
“Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” When King Herod heard this,
he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them
where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you,
Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my
people Israel.” Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance. He sent them to
Bethlehem and said, “Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him
homage.” After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it
came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the
child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of
gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another
way.
El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150
Primera lectura Is 60, 1-6
vaya a adorarlo”.

The Feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord – Today we hear how wise men come bringing
gifts to the newborn King of the Jews. Jesus, the Light of the world, begins as a baby to draw all
people to himself. We carry the light of Christ from the day of our Baptism – how do we draw others
to his light of truth, peace and justice? – Go to “Christmas” on the parish website (http://
