Living Our Faith….. Parish Social Ministry In Chapter 6 of his book, Embracing the Way of Jesus, Pope Francis speaks about the special conversation we have with the Father,

Prayer. It is a conversation initiated by the Father and asked for by Jesus so that we could be one. Even at the end, Jesus did not think

about himself but rather about his disciples asking the Father that they be one, even as he and the Father were one. Jesus knows his disci-

ples and prays to the Father to save “them from a spirit of isolation, of finding refuge in their own certainties and comfort zones, of indif-

ference to others and division into ‘cliques,’ which disfigure the richly diverse face of the earth.”

He calls us to pray and to teach our children to pray. He tells us that every time I opt to help someone, to forget how I’m feeling and opt

to pray with my children or by myself, I am on the road to sainthood.

Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice.

Bless the Church of St. Pius V by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends

Vamos a

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song

First Reading Is 55:10-11

Thus says the LORD: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth,

making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from

my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.

Responsorial Psalm Ps 65 R. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.

Second Reading Rom 8:18-23

Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For

creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own

accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the

glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we

ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.

Gospel Mt 13:1-9

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat

down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. And as

he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at

once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among

thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever

has ears ought to hear."

Segunda lectura Rom 8, 18-23

Hermanos: Considero que los sufrimientos de esta vida no se pueden comparar con la gloria que un día se manifestará en nosotros;

Faith & the Next Generation: Pass It On! Boldly go where many have gone before: help pass on the Good News of Jesus Christ and

our Catholic faith! Last year, over 70 catechists and assistants served over 1,000 children in Faith Formation classes. As of now, less

than 35 have committed to do the same – You can help by becoming a St. Pius catechist. As you nurture the faith of our youngsters, you

will learn and grow as well! Many catechists have said, “I learn so much from the children!” Training, materials and support are pro-

vided. Classes begin Sun. Aug. 27; for more information, contact Mary Kay Wallace (details above.)

Dear friends,

We are asking you to volunteer to help with the Ignite: Our Faith, Our Mission Capital Campaign which we will be undertaking in this autumn.

Ignite! is an Archdiocesan Campaign under the leadership of His Eminence Cardinal DiNardo. The Campaign has four major elements which

benefit both the Archdiocese and our own parish directly.

The first is Parish Needs: One-third of all campaign contribution return directly to parish for designated capital improvements. In our case, we

intend to renovate the interior of the main church, addressing damage to the walls and ceiling, the air conditioning system, seating, and sound.

The second and third are Endowment Funds for Faith Formation and Catholic School Education: St. Pius V with our large Religious Education

Program and parish school will benefit directly from these Endowments.

The fourth is construction and renovation at St. Mary’s Seminary. This is from where our future priests will come. St. Mary’s Seminary also is

where we prepare our Deacons and many of the Lay Ministers who labor in our parishes.

You will hear more about Ignite! In the coming weeks and months. Right now we need you generosity in donating your time and talent to mak-

ing the Campaign a success at St. Pius V.

We also ask that you continue to support the parish and DSF in the work of Evangelization and Service that goes on every day. It is in the gen-

erosity of His people that God is glorified.

Fr. Joe

Queridos amigos,

P. Joe
