Living Our Faith… Parish Social Ministry Holy Week….a time to reflect on Jesus’ passion and death, a time to reflect how Jesus, while preaching peace, justice, and an option for

the poor and vulnerable, died for what he preached. But it didn’t end there. He rose from the dead and made a permanent life giving

connection between God and His people. This is a good time to reflect on the Principals of Catholic Social Teaching or if you want to

keep it simple, pray the “peace Prayer’ all during the week. An interesting story is that it was not the peace prayer of St. Francis. They

believed that a soldier during World War II found a prayer Card with St. Francis on one side and the prayer on the other and people

started to call it the Prayer of St. Francis. The prayer incorporates several of the major themes of Catholic Social Teaching:

Viviendo nuestra fe…. Ministerio Social Parroquial

Make me a channel of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord

And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace,

Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope,

Where there is darkness, only light,

And, where there’s sadness ever joy.

Oh Master, grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console,

To be understood as to understand,

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

In giving of ourselves that we receive,

And in dying that we’re born to eternal life

Dear friends,

As we enter Holy Week, I urge you to take an active part in some of the most beautiful liturgies of the Church. If you have never been to

the Mass of the Lord’s Supper with the washing of the feet, or to the Adoration of the Cross with its Solemn Intercessions, if you have

never been to the Easter Vigil Mass which begins with a bonfire and leads through darkness and light to the joy of the Resurrection, if

you have never been, then Come!

Our best kept secret is another beautiful liturgy in Holy Week, the Chrism Mass. This is the Mass in the Cathedral on Tuesday night, at

which the Holy Oils are blessed by our bishop. All our priests, a great many of our deacons, and representatives of every parish in the

diocese are present. It is the great symbol our unity as the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. You owe it to yourself to participate in

that Mass at least once in your life.

However you pray this week, may this sacred time be fruitful for you. May God enlighten your hearts, forgive your sins, and bring you

to everlasting life.

Fr. Joe

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queridos amigos,
Al comenzar la Semana Santa, les pido que participen activamente en algunas de las liturgias más bellas de la Iglesia. Si nunca has asisti-
do a la Misa de la Cena del Señor con el lavado de los pies o a la Adoración de la Santa Cruz con sus solemnes intercesiones; si nunca
has asistido a la Misa de la Vigilia Pascual que comienza con una hoguera y nos lleva a través de la oscuridad y la luz hacia la alegría de
la Resurrección, si nunca has asistido, entonces ¡Ven!
Nuestro secreto mejor guardado es otra hermosa liturgia en la Semana Santa, la Misa Crismal. Esta es la Misa en la Catedral el martes
por la noche, en la que los Santos Oleos son bendecidos por nuestro obispo. Todos nuestros sacerdotes, muchos de nuestros diáconos y
representantes de cada parroquia en la diócesis están presentes. Es el gran símbolo de nuestra unidad como la Arquidiócesis de Galveston
-Houston. Te debes a ti mismo participar en esa misa al menos una vez en tu vida.
No importa cómo rezas ustedes esta semana, que este tiempo sagrado sea fructífero para ti. Que Dios ilumine tu corazón, perdone tus
pecados y te lleve a la vida eterna.
P. Joe
