A MESSAGE FROM FATHER PAT

PRAYER TO ST. PIUS X

Glorious Pope of the Eucharist, Saint Pius X, you sought "to restore all things in Christ.” Obtain for me a true love of Jesus so that I may live only for Him. Help me to acquire a lively fervor and a sincere will to strive for sanctity of life, and that I may avail myself of the riches of the Holy Eucharist in sacrifice and sacrament. By your love for Mary, mother and queen of all, inflame my heart with tender devotion to her. Blessed model of the priesthood, obtain for us holy, dedicated priests, and increase vocations to the religious life. Dispel confusion and hatred and anxiety, and incline our hearts to peace and concord so that all nations will place themselves under the sweet reign of Christ. Amen. Saint Pius X, pray for us.

Dear St. Pius X Community, $50,000 Matching Gift!

You the Parishioners of St. Pius X Parish never cease to amaze me! A parishioner has put up $50,000 so if we can raise another $50,000, we will have the money needed to fix the AC in the Church. WOW!! The timing couldn’t be better as we have lost a compressor in the Family Center and the initial estimate on replacing that chiller was $87,000. So, to all of you that give from either your time, talent or in this case treasure, THANK YOU!

“To Restore All Things in Christ”

Sunday is the feast of our Patron Saint and I like the fact that we recite his motto before each weekend Mass. He was the Pope that codified canon law into one volume now referred to as the 1917 Code of Canon Law. Imagine the fun that caused before it was all put together. We are only on our second edition of Canon Law which came out in 1983 while I was in the Seminary. He pushed for the liturgical reforms and for more frequent reception of communion of all ages of Catholics. He is quoted as saying “Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven.” He changed the age of First Communion from 12 to 7. And a fact I have learned since being assigned here, he is the Pope that lifted the United States from its Missionary status in the church and created 15 new dioceses in the US. That said, if you have issues from past marriages or other life issues that you think are keeping you from communion, please come see me!

Fr. Pat

PS. Don’t forget your Festival Tickets! If every registered parishioner bought or sold one book, just one, that would put almost $200,000 in the bank. Is it me or doesn’t that make you smile?

St Pius X Our Lady of Guadalupe Society presents the 4th awesome fact about the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

It appears to be virtually indestructible. Over the centuries, two separate events had the potential to harm the tilma, one in 1785 and one in 1921. In 1785, a worker was cleaning the glass encasement of the image when he accidentally spilled strong nitric acid solvent onto a large portion of the image itself. The image and the rest of the tilma, which should have been eaten away almost instantly by the spill, reportedly self-restored over the next 30 days, and it remains unscathed to this day, aside from small stains on the parts not bearing the image. In 1921, an anti-clerical activist hid a bomb containing 29 sticks of dynamite in a pot of roses and placed it before the image inside the Basilica at Guadalupe. When the bomb exploded, most everything from the marble altar rail & floor just feet away from the blast, to windows 150 meters away were broken…yet the image and the glass surrounding it remained untouched. The only damage that occurred in close proximity to the tilma was a hefty brass crucifix, which was twisted and bent back by the blast.

That’s awesome! This article originally appeared at Mountain Catholic. It was edited for Crux.
