ROMANS 12:13 NEW PARISHIONER WELCOMING MINISTRY: Do you love St. Pius X parish? Are you excited and proud to tell people that you are a Catholic Christian? After reflecting further, can you honestly say that your parish has helped you on your faith journey, resulting in a closer relationship with God? Would you be willing to share this enthusiasm for your faith with new members of St. Pius X parish? There is a simple and effective way to do this: by joining our Romans 12:13 New Parishioner Welcoming Ministry! Briefly, here is how our Romans 12:13 ministry works:• Volunteers are split into two large teams which host “New Parishioner Brunches” in the school cafeteria after the 10:15 a.m.

Mass (from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) four times per year (February, May, August, November). • In the 3 months leading up to each brunch, volunteers reach out to newly registered parishioners (families) over the phone –

you greet them, explain our ministry, tell them about St. Pius X and invite them to the brunch,• Volunteers prepare or purchase food and bring to the brunch, warmly greet the new parishioners (especially the ones you may

have contacted previously) and sit with them during the program (led by the ministry leaders). Bring your smile and don’t allow any new parishioners to sit by themselves! Be a bit willing to get out of your comfort zone.

In short, we want our new parishioners to feel welcomed – like they belong to a family. There is no sales pitch – we are just sharing a meal together! This ministry is appropriate for adult men and women of the parish, and their families. Please prayerfully consider joining our ministry team. If you would like more information, or to join our team, please contact Michael Berger ([email protected], 740-919-4169) or John Zacovic ([email protected], 614-322-9473). For existing members, and new members alike, we will be having a short organizational meeting on Sunday morning, January 14th, 2018, in the school cafeteria.

COLLECTION COUNTER SCHEDULES FOR 2018 have been mailed or emailed. If you are a collection counter volunteer and have not received your new schedule, please call Christina at the parish office at (614) 866-2859. Thank you for your continued help in this ministry.

WWP OPENING YOUR HEART CONNECT COFFEE TALK:

YOUR HEART —YOU ARE CAPTIVATINGIn this world of noise and busyness, it is hard for us to find the time to give ourselves a little attention. But it’s important that we do. Please join us for a taste of Walking with Purpose and discussion to remind us of how precious we are to God and that His love is unconditional. He is captivated by each one of us – not because of what we do or what others think of us but simply because we are His precious daughters. No experience necessary, just come as you are, bring a friend or two or more for some coffee and a chance to see what Walking with Purpose is all about! Wednesday January 3, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria “Above all, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) Walking with Purpose is a women’s Catholic Bible study held on Wednesday evenings in the cafeteria and Monday mornings in the Bride’s Room. The program aims to bring women to a closer relationship with Christ. Personal study and small group discussions at WWP each week link our everyday challenges with the solutions given to us through the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church. For more information, contact Cyndi Williams at [email protected] or 614-860-9587.

SAINT OF THE DAY FOR DECEMBER 25

Solemnity of the Nativity of the LordSaint of the Day for December 25The Story of the Solemnity of the Nativity of the LordOn this day, the Church focuses especially on the newborn Child, God become human, who embodies for us all the hope and peace we seek. We need no other special saint today to lead us to Christ in the manger, although his mother Mary, and Joseph, caring for his foster-son, help round out the scene. But if we were to select a patron for today, perhaps it might be appropriate for us to imagine an anonymous shepherd, summoned to the birthplace by a wondrous and even disturbing vision in the night, a summons from an angelic choir, promising peace and goodwill. A shepherd willing to seek out something that might just be too unbelievable to chase after, and yet compelling enough to leave behind the flocks in the field and search for a mystery. On the day of the Lord’s birth, let’s let an unnamed, “non-celebrity” at the edge of the crowd model for us the way to discover Christ in our own hearts—somewhere between skepticism and wonder, between mystery and faith. And, like Mary and the shepherds, let us treasure that discovery in our hearts. The precise dating in this passage sounds like a textbook on creationism. If we focus on the time frame, however, we miss the point. It lays out the story of a love affair: creation, the deliverance of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt, the rise of Israel under David. It climaxes with the birth of Jesus. From the beginning, some scholars insist, God intended to enter the world as one of us, the beloved people. Praise God!

WE ARE CONTINUING TO SAY THE ROSARY every Sunday after the 10:15 a.m. Mass. We encourage you to plan to stay at least one Sunday a month to pray for the special needs of your family. We also invite each of our ministries to choose one Sunday a year to pray for the needs of your ministry. Contact Denise Colucci to reserve a Sunday. You only need to show up.
