Don Antonio's Dispatch…

A number of people have been asking what will happen to the school building, now that the school is closed. I’ve been working with staff at Powers Catholic High School to see if they can utilize our building this next year to help with any differences that arise because of COVID-19. I’ll let you know what comes of those discussions. We will be keeping our parish offices in the school building for the foreseeable future. Speaking of COVID-19 (because everything seems to revolve around that), I wanted to let you know that, after my trips to Chicago and Nashville, I was tested for COVID-19. I have not been experiencing any symptoms, but at the same time, I want to be sure that I’m not carrying the virus without knowing it. You’ll be happy to know that my test came back negative. Still, I am checking my temperature daily, and being aware of any other common symptoms that I could have (like a consistent cough, or lack of taste or smell). Our office staff, too, checks their temperatures each day to make sure that they are not ill. Without giving in to fear, we are taking this virus very seriously, and doing our best to keep St. Pius X a healthy place to come. On next Sunday (19 July) we welcome our Orthodox Christian brothers and sisters who will be using our ball field for their annual softball game. We are happy to have them and let them use our facilities. If you want to come by to watch, I’m sure they’d be happy to have a cheering section!! Here’s our Catechism article for the week:

Jesus asks for childlike abandonment to the providence of our heavenly Father who takes care of his children’s smallest needs: “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.” (n. 305)

“The seed that falls on Isaiah 55:10-11

good ground will yield a Psalm 65:10,11,12-13,14 fruitful harvest.” Romans 8:18-23 Matthew 13:1-23

Dear fellow parishioners: My name is Mark Danaho. I would like to share some of my journey to the diaconate with you. Lord willing, next May, after eight years of spiritual and intellectual preparation, I will be ordained as deacon in the Diocese of Lansing. Believe me there is much more to learn and do. How did I get here I am often asked and ask myself? There are times when I still ask this of God. I was asked to walk along with Jesus and I did. One of my favorite scriptures is Luke 24:13 when on the road to Emmaus two travelers were going the wrong way, which happens to be away from Jerusalem, encounter the risen Jesus not knowing who He is. Jesus opens the scriptures to them. Later when Jesus sits down and breaks bread with them their eyes are opened. They exclaim “were not our hearts burning within us?” They had an encounter with the risen Christ. My wife and I very often take a 5-mile walk in the evenings and I would tell her “the Lord has something for me to do”. The calling to the diaconate was very strong and my heart was burning within me. The then Director of Formation of Deacons told me, “Mark, be still and listen to that soft quiet voice within you.” I listened to that voice and followed. “Here I am Lord if you need me.” I humbly ask for your prayers for my wife, Lina and I, as we move toward that day in 2021 so that we may serve He who came not to be served, but to serve. Very often the last mile can be the hardest. In Christ, Mark Danaho

The Introit for the 15th Sunday: Antiphon When I cried out to the Lord, He heeded my call against my assailants; He who is before the beginning of the world and who endures forever has humbled them. Cast your cares upon the Lord, and He will sustain you. (Ps.55:2) Give ear, O God, to my prayer; do not hide from my pleading. Attend to me and reply. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Antiphon
