NEWS November 13th Remembrance Day

At 11 am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare. This date and time attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. Thank you to our wonderful year 2 and Mrs Taylor for presenting a beautiful liturgy for us as we celebrated Remembrance Day at school. The children were so reverent and respectful. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Laurence Binyon (1869–1943)

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS It is that time of the year again when we begin to think of others less fortunate then ourselves and how we can help them. The St Vincent de Paul hamper drive is on again and notes will be going home very soon. Please think about providing an item for the hampers. The families of St Pius X have been outstanding in previous years with their support of this initiative so please help us out again this year.

Once again the children of the Parish are invited to take part in the Christmas Eve Mass at St Brigid’s. If you are going to be in town it would be lovely if your child/children could be involved in the choir and/or the play. Just let me know if it is possible and we will practise the carols at school.

DATES TO REMEMBER- End of Year Mass – December 5th St Brigid’s Church 12 pm. Christmas Play and Carols – December 6th Year 6 Graduation Dinner – December 8th

God Bless

Intensive Swimming (Kindergarten, Years 1, 2 & 3) The school has once again been successful in our application of a Government grant for an intensive swimming program for Kindergar ten, Years One, Two and Three. The program consists of your child/ren participating in a five day swimming program run by the Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The program will commence next week, dates are 20th to 24th of November with the cost for each child being $0! Kindergarten and Year One will leave school at 9.00am and return at 10.40am, Years Two and Three will depart school at 10.05am and return at 11.40am. Lunch orders can be placed as normal, Years Two and Three will have theirs delivered on their return. Normal school uniform is to be worn. No one is allowed to visit the pool’s canteen. Students will need: swimmers, underwear, towel, sunscreen, crunch and sip, rash shirt and school hat. Optional: goggles and swim cap. It would save much time if the students have their swimmers on under their uniform when they arrive at school. Students will change out of their swimmers on their return to school.

To give your child/ren permission to participate in this possible life saving experience could you please fill out the Intensive Swimming eform on the school’s Skoolbag app. If you have any questions please contact Mr Cant or your child’s teacher. Summer Sport’s Trials This Tuesday we have 12 Year Four and Five students trialing for Diocesan Summer Sporting teams, we wish these students all the very best. We ask that parents are prompt with drop off and pick up times. The note already sent home has all the details you need for the day. Good luck to these boys and girls.

Year Six Fete

Year Six will once again be holding their annual fete on Thursday 30th November (Week 8) between 1.00pm and 2:30pm. Please read the invite letter attached to the newsletter for further details. One of the main stalls of the fete in the White Elephant stall, if you have items that you consider to be category of your trash but someone else’s treasure we would appreciate the donation. These items can be given to any year six student or sent to the school office.

Students will need no more than around $5, not including the gold coin donation.

There is a cake stall running on the day, please do not rely on this stall for your child’s recess as we are unsure how many donations will be received.

The day is a mufti (casual dress) day with a gold coin donation; this will be given to the class teacher not the office – please.

Any help on the day will be very much appreciated. Kristy Isbester
