FROM THE PASTOR…
Dear Parishioners,
I want to call your attention to the annual Remembrance Ceremony that will be coming up here in early November
Each November, on a Sunday near the feast of All Souls, we have a reading, at the 11 am English and 12:30 Spanish Masses, of the names of those persons (about three dozen this time) buried through the services of St. Raphael’s parish during the past twelve months.
A Memorial Candle with the name of each deceased person is lit at that time.
Invitations have been sent to a family member of each of these deceased. We are fully aware that many relatives and friends live at a distance and cannot attend.
We take the occasion to reaffirm our bond with these departed brothers and sisters, as well as reaffirm our hope in eternal life and resurrection.
This year, the Remembrance Ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 5th. It is also Family Mass Sunday.
On a different note, I want to remind you that today we conclude our three-weekend CALLED BY NAME program to promote church vocations. Please do your part by returning the form with the name of at least one potential candidate to whom helpful information can be sent and an invitation perhaps issued to an appropriate event to hear more about the priesthood or religious life.
Our VINO NUEVO apostolate is preparing an alternative Halloween event featuring children dressing in their patron-saint costumes. It will be on Friday, Oct.27, 5:30 to 8:30 pm. More details are elsewhere in this bulletin. -Father Jerry Jecewiz
Second collection today…
Today we celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, the entire Church is in-vited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. This year, we are invited to “Chat With The Pope” to learn more about his missions. Scan this year’s World Mission Sunday poster using Facebook Messenger for your mobile device, or learn more at ChatWithThePope.org

We are ready to start for St. Raphael's Family Mass Choir and
we need your talents. The children and adults working with the
choir have done an excellent job over the recent years and have
made significant contributions to the liturgical life of St. Raphael's
parish. Children in grades 2 and above who are ready and willing
to sing are encouraged to join us. We would also be interested in
having any high school students participate. The practices are
held one or two Monday's a month at 7:00pm and the choir will
be singing at the monthly Family Masses, Christmas Eve and
other appropriate occasions. Dates and other specific information
will follow. The only requirements are that you attend practice
and Mass, and behave appropriately. We continue to look for
adults who are willing to assist on the singing, who may play a
musical instrument or who are willing to help with other support
functions, such as transportation. If you are interested please
take a form at back of the church and return it to the parish rec-
tory, to Sister Christine at the Religious Education Program, Joe
Becker or Jan Wnek after Mass. If you have any questions re-
garding the choir please feel free to call the rectory or call Joe
Becker at 718-392-3008 or email Joe at joebeck-

THOUGHT FOR MISSION SUNDAY
“The Church—I repeat once again—is not a relief organization, an enterprise nor an NGO (Non-Government Organization), but a commu-nity of people, animated by the Holy Spirit, who have lived and are living the wonder of the en-counter with Jesus Christ and want to share their experience of deep joy, the message of salva-tion that the Lord gave us.
It is the Holy Spirit who guides the Church in this path.”
— Pope Francis
