THE GUADALUPE TORCH RUN
About 20 of our parishioners participated in the Guadalupe Torch Run on the feast itself (December 12th). They began at St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, with a noon Mass celebrated by Bishop DiMarzio. At the Mass, our parishioner Jasmín Perez, served (near left photo), along with parishioner Alex Velazquez. Karla Perez (near right photo) did a masterful rendition in singing the liturgy’s responsorial psalm a cappella from the ambo. After Mass, the group trekked through the streets of Brooklyn (lower left photo) carrying the lit torch representing the light of our faith. By late afternoon, they reached the home stretch (lower right photo) and then entered the church, where the torch lit our tabernacle’s sanctuary lamp. A meal together followed in the rectory basement. Thanks to all involved, especially our Korean parishioners for the loan of their van, driven by Richard O’Connor, in case any of the runners needed a break during their challenging pilgrimage.
THANK YOU TO THE EDWARD LYNCH FUNERAL HOME ON QUEENS BLVD…. For the 2019 parish-imprint calendars (available at the rear of the church), as well as for their kind-nesses to St. Raphael’s during the past year.
