We give the definition of ourselves over to so many
things. We allow our society, friends, family, work, social
groups, ethnicity, and even institutions define, classify,
and color how we perceive ourselves. When we listen
predominantly to the voices of others, we lose touch with
what is happening within our own inner voice. If we listen
carefully within, we can easily discover that we are in
want and need. We know our incompleteness and also
know that loneliness, sadness, and self-images can propel
us outward in attempts to fill those gaps. We can become
not only victims of our own prejudices but can find our-
selves overly self-indulgent in things that can only satisfy
for a short time, if at all.
It is no wonder that money and power are things that are
so fervently sought after. As long as we can keep a steady
supply going, the illusion of fulfillment and satisfaction
can falsely persuade us as craftily as a master magician’s
act. We live with illusions not truth. It is no wonder, then,
that some of the wealthiest folks are also really the unhap-
piest. Whether we admit it, the lies we live and pursue
will ultimately expose our superficiality. We all have to
wrestle with who we are and what gives our lives purpose
and meaning. Learn to listen more deeply, not to what
others are saying about you, but to what God is echoing in
your heart.
We can easily get confused and misunderstand, not only
about who we are but who God is. Even the disciples and
the Samaritan woman at the well missed the point Jesus
was trying to make. There is only one Person who can
satisfy the deepest yearnings and longings of our hearts
— Jesus the Messiah. It is not the work of corporate
America that will lead us to happiness or greatness but
the work of the soul. We continue to resist acknowledging
this and are happier in our world of misunderstanding
and illusion. The life-giving water we truly need doesn’t
come from the source of a well but from the Source of
Life. Only God can reveal the truth of our sinfulness, the
superficiality of our pursuits, and the illusions we hold so
dear. Only Jesus can save us from ourselves and give us
what we really need. If only our heads can catch up with
where our hearts know they need to be, then will we find
real contentment and life!

On Feb 25, 2020 we were among 600-800 pilgrims who
traveled to Epiphany Church in Pittsburgh where Aux.
Bishop Waltershield lead us in the 40 Days for Life kick
off Mass to begin the Spring Campaign to end abortion in
Pittsburgh, PA. There were 50 Priests who Concelebrated.
After Mass, many processed to Planned Parenthood with
police escort holding candles and crosses. We were
Blessed by Fr. Jay Donohue and Fr. Joe Freedy at the
abortion clinic where we prayed and sang songs.

BIBLE
The Bible was not written at a single point in history.
Although salvation history extends from creation and the
beginning of time until the final judgement at the end of
time, written accounts – the books of the Old Testament –
were initially formulated at the time of King David
about 1000 BC, while the New Testament writings were
concluded with the Book of Revelation by St. John about
100 AD. The early Christian Church determined the 27
books of the New Testament but shortly before 200 AD
Judaism decided to exclude from their Bible those books
written in Greek. Protestant Reformers accepted this
Jewish determination but the Council of Trent in 1545
AD proclaimed that these books also are inspired and
should be included as parts of the Old Testament.

NEW EVANGELIZATION
Many, if not all, Protestant denominations maintain that
Faith alone is necessary for salvation or, as some phrase
it, “Once saved, always saved.” The practical conse-
quence or logical conclusion of this belief is that once an
individual has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal
savior and been baptized, they are guaranteed an eternal
life in heaven and are free to do as they please while still
on earth. They maintain that this is what Paul meant in
his letter to the Romans when he states, “For we consider
that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of
the law” (Rom 3: 28). But further on, he declares, “Shall
we sin because we are not under the law? Of course
not!” (Rom 6: 13), and later insists that “if you live
according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the spirit
you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live”
(Rom 8: 13).
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Faith is “both a gift of God and a human act by which
the believer gives personal adherence to God and to the
whole truth that God has revealed” (Glossary, Catechism
of the Catholic Church). Accordingly, faith is more than
a personal determination and conviction of what we
should believe, but a personal trust in an inconceivably
powerful Creator who has chosen to become a Father
and adopt some of us – the baptized – as His obedient
children. Our faith demands more than saying, “I believe
the Creed” but includes developing a personal awareness
of the constant presence of God who disciplines us but
who cares and helps us through our ordeals. Although
ancient Greek philosophers have proven that the existence
of a Creator-God can be known from reason alone,
revelation is necessary to know God as a loving Father.

“Plant a Seed” Plant a seed by contributing to the Office of faith,
Family and Discipleship, which supports parish youth
ministry. When we plant the seeds of faith, we provide
opportunities for people to develop meaningful relation-
ships with God, and we inspire them to be disciples
of His son, Jesus Christ. “Grow in the Lord” and
