+ This was a very exciting week for our God Drops. On Monday and Tuesday, Santa’s Workshop arrived at St. Rita School to allow students time to shop for their loved ones. Most items were between $2-$5 to allow for more gift

giving. Students had a very large assortment of gifts to choose from. There was everything from stuffed animals, necklaces, coffee mugs, Bills paraphernalia, special pens, tools, and much more. What a wonderful way for our students to give to others!

+ On Thursday and Friday, our Kindergarten through Second Grade students performed their Christmas play entitled “Shepherds, Sheep, and a Savior”. These students did a wonderful job preparing the audience for the Coming of Christ and reminding everyone about the true meaning of Christmas.

+ On Saturday morning, Santa Claus made a very special visit to the Prekindergarten and Kindergarten students along with their families at the annual Breakfast with Santa. Families enjoyed visiting with one another, eating a great meal together, and watching their God Drops’ faces light up as they sat on Santa Claus' lap. Thank you to the Parent Association Committee for hosting this event.

ChristLife provides a great opportunity for Catholics and non-Catholics to encounter Jesus and to grow in relationship with Him through a series of three sequential programs: Discovering Christ, Following Christ and Sharing Christ.

Discovering Christ is the first seven-week experience, which helps people enter into or renew a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, experience the love of God, and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live as God’s children.

Following Christ helps those who have completed Discovering Christ to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. This is accomplished through the grace of God by praying together, teaching, and supporting one another in the basic disciplines and truths practiced by Christians since the early Church.

Sharing Christ focuses on learning to share Jesus with others through personal or friendship evangelization. The goal is to develop an attitude of heart that moves us to be open to share the Good News we have experienced anytime and anywhere.

The Third Sunday of Advent

In the hope that you will enter more fully into the Mass!

“Gaudete In Domino Semper—Rejoice In The Lord Always”

T his Sunday is Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday. The word is taken from the Introit or opening

prayer of today's Mass, "Rejoice in the Lord always." It is a time filled with hope and

trust in the Lord that our deliverance and ultimate salvation will come. Our readings today

highlight the role of John the Baptist in “preparing the way of the Lord”, John sent disciples

to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come?” Jesus’ answer hearkened back to the

words of Propjet Isaiah, who foretold long ago about the day the Lord would come.

In our first reading (Isaiah 35:1-6, 10), the Prophet Isaiah described the day when God himself would intervene in Salvation

history and deliver his people; a time of utter joy and gladness. The words he used are the very words Jesus will use to

announce to the world that indeed, He is the one of whom Isaiah spoke.

The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers,

and rejoice with joyful song. The glory of Lebanon will be given to them, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they

will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees

that are weak, say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with

vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the

deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the mute will sing.

Those whom the LORD has ransomed will return and enter Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy; they will

meet with joy and gladness, sorrow and mourning will flee.

Our Epistle reading is from the Letter of St. James (JAS 5:7-10). It reflects the belief at the time that Jesus' return was

imminent and cautioned patience and firmness of heart - a lesson still applicable today.

Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the

earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You too must be patient. Make your hearts

firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not complain, brothers and sisters, about one another, that you

may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing before the gates. Take as an example of hardship and patience,

brothers and sisters, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

In our Gospel reading (Matthew 11:2-11), we hear that John the Baptist, while he was in prison, sent disciples to inquire if

Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus' replied using the words of Isaiah’s well known prophesy - in effect saying, Yes, I am “the

glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God.” He also told them that John was the one of whom the prophets also spoke.

When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ, he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question, "Are

you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" Jesus said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you

hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and

the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."

As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, "What did you go out to the desert to see? A

reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine

clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is the one about whom it is written: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way

before you. Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet

the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."

T oday is a day of joy and rejoicing that at a time of God's choosing, he will come with vindication to save us. Patience!

Joy! The day is near! May our hearts be firm!
