Dear Friends,
Rejoice! Today is traditionally called Gaudete or Rejoice Sunday, from the
first words of the entrance antiphon, “Rejoice in the Lord always,” taken from
today’s reading from Saint Paul to the Philippians. Why should we rejoice? Because
the Lord is near! We are now more than halfway through our Advent preparations,
the Lord is closer to us through our spiritual practices, let us be sensitive to this
nearness of the Lord.
This Sunday, December 13th, we will have a presentation of the LIVE
NATIVITY in church at 7PM. Our teens and young people will dramatically reenact
this great gift of God’s love in His Incarnation and Birth. Please join us for this
spiritual event in preparation for Christmas.
On Monday evening, December 14th, at 7PM we will have our Advent Confessions.
Ten priests from various areas of the archdiocese will be with us to celebrate the sacrament
of Penance for you. There will be no service prior to the confessions. When you come into
the church, priests will be at their stations to hear your confession. CONFESSIONS WILL
BE HEARD IN CHURCH ONLY. WE WILL NOT BE USING THE HALL THIS YEAR.
We are now beginning to see some progress with the construction of the new narthex
for the church. Steady progress has been made with the construction of the parish office
center. Its completion is scheduled for the beginning of February. Contributions continue
to come in for these projects for which I am most grateful. To date we have not had to
borrow any monies towards the project. Through the generosity of the faithful parishioners
of this great parish, we have been able to meet our obligations so far through the ongoing
contributions and by drawing down on the parish Trust Fund with the archdiocese. Soon,
however, we will need to borrow from the bank to continue the project. We anticipate a
construction loan and eventually a mortgage of no more than $1M. The total cost of the
projects is $3.2M. We are still in a strong financial posture this year through the weekly
contributions, the fall collection and now with the much anticipate Christmas collection. I
know you will be very generous again this year. Thank you for your kind support!
May our patron, Saint Robert Bellarmine, inspire us to rejoice in our gifts of faith,
hope and love!
With prayers,
The Third Sunday O

FROM THE DESK OF
MRS. JASTER
APPLE OF MY EYE: Congratulations to the first students who were recognized for doing something good: Emma Ryan, Sean Ferello, Mrs. Kloc, Cole Pollick and Nick Welte.
HOME AND SCHOOL NEWS: Scrip News: A variety of Scrip cards are available each day in school. If you are in need of a Giving Tree gift, why not stop in? Last day for Special Orders is Monday, December 14th. Milk and Cookies: The Home and School will be treating the children to milk and cookies on Wednesday 12/23. If a child has any type of food allergy, please contact Mrs. Suzanne Sorge by Friday December 11th so that an alternate treat can be provided. HOME AND SCHOOL MEETING: Our January Home and School meeting is one that we encourage all parents to attend. We have invited Mr. Bill Brannick, the director of technology for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to address the safe use of technology in school and at home. In an age where children are creating a digital footprint from early on, it is imperative that we work together to ensure their responsible use of technology. JUST A THOUGHT: Once again, I have come across signs of the Advent Virus – have you?
WARNING……WARNING: ADVENT VIRUS Be on the alert for symptoms of inner Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The hear ts of a great many have already been exposed to this virus and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world. Some signs and symptoms of The Advent Virus: A tendency to think and act spontaneously
rather than on fears based on past experiences.
An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
A loss of interest in judging other people. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions
of others. A loss of interest in conflict. A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious
symptom.) Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation. Contented feelings of connectedness with others and
nature. Frequent attacks of smiling. An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than
make them happen. An increased susceptibility to the love extended by
others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it. Please send this warning out to all your friends. This
virus can and has affected many systems. Some systems have been completely cleaned out because of it.

The Roman Church has been singing the "O" Antiphons” since at least the eighth century. We pray them at Mass and in Evening Prayer from December 17-23. They are filled ancient biblical imagery drawn from the messianic hopes of the Old Testament to proclaim the coming Christ as the fulfillment not only of Old Testament hopes, but present ones as well. We sing them in “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”
December 17 O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love:
come to teach us the path of knowledge!
December 18 O Leader of the House of Israel, giver of the Law to Moses on Sinai:
come to rescue us with your mighty power!
December 19 O Root of Jesse’s stem, sign of God’s love for all his people:
come to save us without delay!
December 20 O Key of David, opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom:
come and free the prisoners of darkness!
December 21 O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: come and shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the
shadow of death.
December 22 O King of all nations and keystone of the Church:
come and save man, whom you formed from the dust!
December 23 O Emmanuel, our King and Giver of Law:
come to save us, Lord our God!

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT Zephaniah 3:14-18a; Philippians 4: 4-7; Luke 3:11-18
Reflection
The mood in the third week of Advent turns to “joyful anticipation.” He will soon be among us...let us
not despair. As we approach Christmas, John the Baptist makes us aware that the Lord is near. What
can you do this week to put you life in order so you can celebrate the joy of Christmas?
In these final weeks of imposed busyness and anxiety, try to be more joyful.
List three things that you are grateful for this week.
The third Sunday of Advent is also called Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete, a Latin word which means “rejoice,” is
taken from the entrance antiphon for Sunday's Mass. This theme is echoed in today's second reading from
Paul’s Letter to the Philippians. It is a reminder that Advent is a season of joy because our salvation is
already at hand.
