My Dear Parishioners

Thanks to the technological know-how of a few of our parishioners I have been able to continue some measure of my pastoral ministry I have to admit that I have developed a deeper appreciation for the abundant treasures that we have in our Catholic faith

At the beginning we focused on our belief in the communion of saints both those who have been canonized and the example and encouragement we receive from one another saints in the making We are not alone

We continued reflecting on the virtue of hope Optimism is good but in a sustained crises optimism can fail hope never fails since it is solidly grounded in the conviction that the promises and teachings of Jesus are certain and worth my trust

We became grateful for Pope St John Paul and his encouragement to take to heart the revelations made to a simple Polish nun St Faustina Jesus used her to reveal the ocean of Divine Mercy that is available for the asking The ABC of Divine Mercy mdash Ask for Mercy Be ready to give Mercy Completely trust in Jesus

We heard from a number of people Why They Love Being Catholic And then we ourselves shared what it is about our faith and the practices and customs of our church that have enriched our lives and helped us become the better version of ourselves One of them is the rosary and so we spent considerable time rediscovering the modern power of an ancient prayer

From the number of other sources we were edified by the ways that people found to handle the inevitable challenges that come with life in now the 21st century Becoming aware that time and again it depended on utter faith and trust in God revealed to us through Jesus and that a dedicated pattern of prayer brings that relationship with Jesus to life

At a recent virtual meeting I shared with our group something that I had tucked into one of the books years ago 12 Signs of a Spiritual Awakening I now share it with you It was a consensus of our group that the pandemic slowed us down and gave us an opportunity to re-acquaint ourselves with the treasures of our faith all of which helped us to feel wersquove made some progress awakening spiritually

12 Signs of a Spiritual Awakening

1 An increased tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen

2 Frequent attacks of smiling

3 Feelings of being connected with others and nature

4 Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation

5 A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experience

6 An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment

7 A loss of ability to worry

8 A loss of interest in conflict

9 A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others

10 A loss of interest in judging others

11 A loss of interest in judging self

12 Gaining the ability to love without expecting anything in return

Donrsquot worry none of us is a finished product yet but hopefully we are going in the right direction

Let us continue to pray for and love one another

Fr Roy
