World Day of the Sick, Sunday-February 11, 2018

Fr Nelson Cipollone, (Vicar of our Basilica) and a group of Hispanics, will be at the Maimonides Medical Center - Visiting the Sick at the World Day of the Sick - Sunday, February 11th, 2018.

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR THE TWENTY-SIXTH WORLD DAY OF THE SICK 2018 - Mater Ecclesiae: “Behold, your son... Behold, your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.”- (Jn 19:26-27)

MENSAJE DEL SANTO PADRE FRANCISCO PARA LA XXVI JORNADA MUNDIAL DEL ENFERMO 2018 - Mater Ecclesiae: «Ahí tienes a tu hijo... Ahí tienes a tu madre. Y desde aquella hora, el discípulo la recibió en su casa» (Jn 19,26-27)

The Church’s service to the sick and those who care for them must continue with renewed vigour, in fidelity to the Lord’s command (cf. Lk 9:2-6; Mt 10:1-8; Mk 6:7-13) and following the eloquent example of her Founder and Master. The theme for this year’s Day of the Sick is provided by the words that Jesus spoke from the Cross to Mary, his Mother, and to John: “Woman, behold your son ... Behold your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his home” (Jn 19:26-27).

tu hijo... Ahí tienes a tu madre. Y desde aquella hora, el discípulo la recibió en su casa» (Jn 19,26-27).

The Holy Father speaks… Each of us can discover his or her own vocation only through spiritual discernment. This is “a process by which a person makes fundamental choices, in dialogue with the

Lord and listening to the voice of the Spirit, starting with the choice of one’s state in life”. Thus we come to discover that Christian vocation always has a prophetic dimension. The Scriptures tell us that the prophets were sent to the people in situations of great material insecurity and of spiritual and moral crisis, in order to address in God’s name a message of conversion, hope and consolation. Today too, we have great need of discernment and of prophecy. We have to resist the temptations of ideology and negativity, and to discover, in our relationship with the Lord, the places, the means and situations through which he calls us.

"REGINA PACIS VOLUN TEENS"

During the 40 days of Lent, we reflect on how we can more fully turn our lives over to God so that we can celebrate Easter with joyful hearts. The Church has given us many tools to help our reflection and conversion. Among these are the following: By deepening our understanding of the disciplines, practices and devotions of Lent, we will live Lent more fully and grow in relationship with God and one another.
