PHONE CHANGES All extensions for the church and school have recently changed. Be sure to double check all ex-tensions prior to calling.

I was in the position of a lifetime! I was running the last leg of a relay race dur-ing recess in 5th grade and we were leading the 6th graders. As I’m running to the finish line, the bell rang. The problem was that the lunch lady’s 4 yr. old son darted across my path and I bumped into him, sending him to the ground as I tumbled across the finish line. The little guy was ok but I was yelled at by that lunch lady for not stop-ping immediately when the bell rang. Mrs. Miller shouted “You’ll never be a saint!” I replied, “Yeah I know, but did I cross the finish line first?” (I could tell by the cheering of the 5th graders that our team did win the relay race.) On Novem-ber 1st we celebrate All Saints Day. But what is sainthood? Saints are those we read about in books from long ago, right? Saints do heroic things, work mir-acles, right? Yes, but a saint is one who essentially lives in union with God. And at the core of this is living a life of love and service each day. This may be at home, school, with family, at our job or wherever God has placed us at the mo-ment. And our model to follow is Jesus. We are to follow in His footsteps, loving and serving wherever we are, some-times in heroic ways but most often in the small day to day moments of life. So nourished by the Bread of Life each week, let’s keep following Christ in all things! As God calls us all to be saints, let us love and serve wherever we are.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 31

In today’s readings, the theme is to Love God and Love Your Neighbor. This is the response that Jesus gives when he is asked “which is the first of all the commandments.” The scribe replies “well said, teacher. You are right in saying he is the One and there is no other besides him.” How do we love God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength; that is with your whole being? We can show our Love for God through prayer and sacrifice. This can be more difficult than it seems. The second, love your neighbor as yourself is even more challenging. We also must love ourselves. Loving ourselves means to be true to ourselves and be honest about the talents that we have, the time that we have and the treasure that God has given us without becoming proud and arrogant. Loving our neighbor calls us to use the gifts that God has given us in the service of others. What are the ways in which you will show your love for God this week? Take some extra time for prayer and be attentive at the Eucharist. How about your neighbor? Someone may need your gift of compassion, another your gift of a visit and still another a gift for the poor. Love yourself by taking time for yourself, for prayer, and relaxation and thanking God for the gifts you have to share.

S. Betty Larson, OSB, Pastoral Minister

BOOK OF REMEBRANCE November is the month of the Church year dedicated to “All Souls” who have gone before us in death. Therefore, the “Book of Remembrance” will be on display at the front of Church on the West wall during the entire month of November. You are invited to write the names of any deceased friends and loved ones in the book. They will be included in the prayers of our parish community as we journey through the month. Pictures of those who were buried from our parish over the past year will also be on display. A THANK YOU NOTE Our family is very grateful to Rev. Roger Klassen, the staff and parishioners of the Church of Saint Joseph for the kindnesses shown to us at the vigil service, funeral Mass, burial, and funeral lunch for our father Joseph Leo Fitzgerald. We’d also like to thank you for something some of you may not have noticed. It happened after Joseph’s love of his life, Mary Ann, had passed about six or seven years ago. Afterwards, Joseph would sit up front on the left side of the church, on the left aisle. At Communion time he would put his hand out to shake parishioners’ hands as they passed by after receiving Communion. So many of you noticed and shook his hand. You may have thought of it as a simple handshake. Please know to us it went much deeper. For Dad, this made him feel he was connected to his church community. Wow, what a special memory that is for all of us who took Dad to Mass. With sincere gratitude, The family of Joseph Leo Fitzgerald JOETOWN ROCKS 2022 These past two years the pandemic has caused our parish to forego our annual Joe-Town Rocks concert and festival. Our parish family stepped up and supported the robust raffle and other activities that helped fill the financial gap. The festival is about more than money, it is about the tradition of gathering for our parish and the greater community. Without our annual celebration we and many others felt lost during those early July days. We have been in preliminary discussions with key players and fully intend on bringing our festival back in 2022. We pray that the health of our community and volunteerism of our parish members will again support this great event. As our planning continues we will keep you updated on the process and how we and the festival committee envision what Joe-Town Rocks 2022 looks like. Thank you for your past and continued support.

Bruce Bechtold & Dean Budde, Festival Chairmen
