A message from Bishop Daniel Miehm
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
With the recent announcement from the Ontario government that places of worship may once again open with
30% capacity, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough is now preparing to reopen its parishes reverently
and responsibly.
To begin the reopening process, all parishes will follow this timeline:
June 12 – 13, 2020 – Period of preparation for parishes. Churches remain closed.
Sunday, June 14, 2020 – On the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, parishes will open church buildings for a period
of the day for private prayer, Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confessions) and Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament only. The pastor will decide whether it is feasible to open mission churches on this day. The pastor
will also determine the schedule for the day and post it for the faithful.
Monday, June 15, 2020 – Churches may open for private prayer, or be closed for necessary cleaning and
preparation.
Tuesday, June 16, 2020 – Priests begin to celebrate daily Mass in parishes. Masses continue through the
week according to the regular schedule or an adapted schedule, as necessary.
Weekend of June 20/21, 2020 – Sunday Masses will resume.
During this period of transition, I continue to dispense the faithful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.
Those most at risk because of advanced age or compromised health should consider not attending Mass during
this time, or attending only weekday celebrations of the Mass when participants are fewer. The Sunday Mass
from the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains will for the time being continue to be broadcast on YourTV
Peterborough and area, and the YouTube link will be made available on the website for the Diocese.
The procedures for the celebration of Mass and the sacraments will be different from our usual experience. I
ask for your understanding and patience as we welcome back our parishioners, even in limited numbers. This
will be a period of transition and adjustment as we begin the reopening process. My prayer is that our
gratitude for the restoration of the worship life in our parishes will inspire our openness to the changes we will
each make for the common good.
I am grateful to the working group of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario that formulated guidelines
for the Dioceses of our province in consultation with experts in various fields, the members of the Reopening
Planning Committee and the presbyterate here in the Diocese of Peterborough. Their collective efforts have
led to the development of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough’s “Worship Safe” document which
will guide the reopening of parishes. A copy of this document will be available on the website for the Roman
Catholic Diocese of Peterborough.
May we continue to remember in prayer those who have died of COVID-19, those who have suffered with this
illness, those who care for them and indeed, all who minister and serve in this time of pandemic.

Parish office: The Diocese has instructed the Parish employees to work on flexible hours during this phase
and has instructed not to offer in-person service at this time. Telephone and email communications are to be
continued.
Parish hall and meeting room: are closed for now until parishes become comfortable with the safety
processes necessary for re-opening.
Fr. Daniel celebrated his 7th Anniversary on Wednesday, June 10th. Several of our parishioners and
youth has sent wishes to him online. A few pics among them are posted here. A big thank you to Iman!

Sally Borovsky
BOROVSKY, MARGARET SARAH
Sally is survived by her daughters Sue (Chris) Robinson, Anne (Bradley) Greentree, sister Clare Walsh, and
brothers Tony McGuire and Jack (Judy) McGuire. She is predeceased by her husband Alexander, daughter
Colleen (Jim) Horner (Julia) and son Tony (Suzanne) Borovsky, brother Bill McGuire and sister Maisie Whit-
ney. Sally is fondly remembered by her many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sally was so very proud of her
family and will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Briana (Pat) Wolstenholm, Elyse (Mike) Hill, Mallo-
ry Horner (Jesse), Abigail Horner (Jay), Rebecca (Jeff) Yeo, Brent (Emily) Robinson, Nicholas Borovsky,
Benjamin Borovsky, Zachary Borovsky, Whitney (Brian) Corcoran, Olyvia Greentree, as well as Tran Finlay
and Chanta Finlay Great grandchildren Logan and Levi Corcoran, Ayla and Adelyn Hill, and Ivy and Hazel
Wolstenholm will continue to keep Great Gramma Sally in their bedtime prayers.
Sally was born in Saint John, New Brunswick to Neil McGuire and Mary (Crozier), the third of 6 children.
Growing up on the shores of the Kennebecasis River, her summers were spent down at the wharf swimming
and skating during the winter months. Once Sally became established as a school teacher (taught in a one
room schoolhouse…eight grades at once!!), she decided to venture to Oshawa, Ontario and took up a teaching
position with the now known Durham Catholic District School Board, where she taught for 35 years touching
many students with kindergarten as her Grade of choice and expertise. 1958 was an exciting time as she met
the love of her life, Alex (on a blind date at a CYO dance). They were married 10 months later. Throughout
their 49 years of marriage, Sally and Alex enjoyed many wonderful years with family and friends at their
cottage on Lake Kashwakamak. They also loved their regular family visits to Renforth (NB).
Sally was not one to sit still or miss a social event. If she wasn’t supporting her kids and grandchildren at the
arenas or soccer fields, she was sewing, quilting, dancing or playing bridge. When the challenges for caring
for a house and yard became too much Mom moved into White Cliffe Terrace Retirement home where she
made new friends, enjoyed great meals and was comforted by the safe and caring community.
Obituary for Sally Borovsky
Our parishioner Margaret Sarah Borovsky (Sally), 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020. The funeral service took place in Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville on Tuesday, June 9th at 1:00 PM. Fr. Daniel officiated the service. Our parish group used to visit her at White cliffe home on Fridays. May our Lord comfort her family in this difficult time.

The Grave site committal of Richard Bailey was on Monday, June 8th-2020.
The Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Morris Funeral Chapel in
Bowmanville. The Priest from St. Bernadette’s parish officiated the service.
Live streaming was not arranged.
