PERSONAS DE LA ESPERANZA

A lo largo de esta temporada de Pascua las lecturas nos han llevado a la experiencia de la iglesia primitiva. Hemos probado la emoción y el celo de los primeros cristianos. Ahora, con ellos, escuchamos las palabras de San Pedro, que nos recuerda que cuando la gente se da cuenta de que somos personas de esperanza, debemos estar listos para explicar por qué. Esto nos desafía. ¿Se dan cuenta de que somos personas de esperanza? En un mundo a menudo marcado por el cinis-mo y la desesperanza, ¿nos destacamos como personas que ofrecen esperanza y tranquilidad a los demás? TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading The people of Samaria accepted the word of God preached by Philip; they received the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:5-8, 14-17). Psalm Let all the earth cry out to God with joy (Psalm 66). Second Reading Act with gentleness and reverence toward all, so that when you are maligned those who defame you will be the ones put to shame (1 Peter 3:15-18) or 1 Peter 4:13-16. Gospel I will not leave you orphans, but will come to you (John 14:15-21) or John 17:1-11a.

PEOPLE OF HOPE Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excite-ment and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This chal-lenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cynicism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to others? In today’s Gos-pel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us people of hope.

NOVENA TO SAINT RITA

The conclusion of the Novena to Saint Rita Is her Feast Day of

May 22nd.

Blessed red roses will be distributed. The custom of

blessing and distributing roses commemorates the blooming of a rose in the garden of the saint's

home in the cold of winter."

Rita, on her death bed, had requested a relative to bring her a

rose from her winter garden, which she hastened to bring to

the saint. It also commemorates the sweet odor which emanates

from the body of the saint at times when she bestows her

favors upon her followers. Vatican officials, in their

investigation of her life, were so impressed with this event that they accepted it as one of the

miracles required for her canonization.

Es su fiesta de 22 de mayo.

Rosas rojas bendecidas serán

repartido. La costumbre de La bendición y la distribución de las

rosas conmemora la floración de una rosa en el jardín de la casa del

santo

Rita, en su lecho de muerte, Pidió a un pariente que le trajera una rosa de su jardín de invierno, que se apresuró a traer al santo.

También conmemora el dulce olor que emana del cuerpo del santo en

momentos en que otorga sus favores a sus seguidores.

Funcionarios del Vaticano, en su Investigación de su vida, quedaron

tan impresionados con este acontecimiento que lo aceptaron

como uno de los milagros requeridos para ella

ST. THOMAS PARISH PHOTO DIRECTORY Due to recent inquiries and input from various St. Thomas Aquinas parishioners, Fr. Tom has requested that the pastoral council look into available options for creating an updated version of our parish directo-ry. It has been six years since our last directory and the prospect of a new directory is a welcome endeavor. As some of you may recall, the last undertaking to produce a directory was fraught with difficulties; in the end, many parishioners did not even receive a copy. During a discussion of the topic at a recent pastoral council meeting the talent and abilities of our own parish com-munity were highlighted. Perhaps the new parish directory is an under-taking that could be performed by our own parish community? If anyone reading this announcement has any thoughts, insights, suggestions, or are interested in investing their time or talent on this project, please contact Fr.
