THIS IS THE HOLY TRINITY Today we celebrate the Holy Trinity, one of the most con-founding mysteries of our faith. Through this mystery we experience our relationship to God: Creator, Savior, and Holy Spirit. This relationship is not easy to understand or to describe. It does not become clearer through analysis. Its complexity mirrors the complexity of all our relation-ships. We understand our relationships with our spouses, our children, our parents, and our friends only through daily give-and-take, annual rituals, and the life-changing moments we share. We understand our relationships only as we live them. The relationships we have with those we love, and who love us, sustain us through an uncertain and difficult life. This is the Holy Trinity.
What is striking about today’s readings is that each is in-complete. What they do offer is a description of a moment in our relationship, a memory of a time and an event when our relationship made sense even though that sense may be beyond our ability to describe fully. Often that is all that our faith offers, that is, a memory of what is possi-ble, what is promised, what has been given. A memory of eternity, of love beyond understanding is to be cherished and nurtured even if not fully understood. This is the Holy Trinity.

John’s Gospel begins, “In the beginning was the Word . . . and the Word was God”; John later adds “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14). This is more than poetic imagery. Here John makes a very bold claim. The prophets proclaimed God’s word, but Jesus is God’s Word—coming from God to us who are not God. It took more than two hundred years before a universal Council declared that Jesus was “. . . true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father . . .” Slowly, the church was working to-ward a doctrine of the Trinity. The doctrine doesn’t explain the Trinity, but it does express the incomprehensible mystery of the God whose love overflows into the glories of creation, the messiness of our human condition, and the Spir-it of truth that still guides the Church today.

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank you for all those who supported our par-ish chicken sale two weeks ago. We were able to raise $223 for our parish.
THANK YOU!
St. Thomas is preparing food for the “Table” at the Presbyterian Church every third Thursday of each month. We hope you will use the sign-up sheet so we know what food you bring and who the volunteer helpers will be on that Thursday. We need potatoes, carrots, ham, green beans, and milk. The sign-up sheet for the food is on the “Table” board and a half barrel marked “Table” underneath where you can put food the Sunday before. This is on the NW corner of the Social Hall.
THE TABLE
Since we have reached high tempera-tures in the past days, we have turned on the air conditioner in the church. We are asking everyone to please help us save energy by keep-ing the doors closed at all times.
HOT WEATHER
Adoration of the Blessed Sac-rament on Friday, July 5th, the First Friday of the month, from 9am to 9pm. Mass is celebrated at 12pm. Please come and join us for Adora-
tion on this First Friday. We need people to sign up for an hour of adoration during the 12 hours. The sign-up sheet is on the parish bulletin board in the church hall. Please consider signing up for an hour to ensure we have every hour covered, and hopefully by more than just one person per hour.
BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION
I wanted to thank all those families that helped us by purchasing the chicken dinners two weekends ago. I wanted to clarify that they were smoked chicken. They were not grilled nor barbequed. The reason that I mentioned this is because some people looked at the chicken and thought that they were not fully cooked. They were cooked completely. Next time we are going to smoked half of the chickens and the other half will be grilled. Once again thank you for your support of our parish. This weekend, we celebrate Father’s day. I want to congratulate all the fathers of our parish. May God continue to bless all of you and your families. May God continue to bless all of us at St. Thomas, Fr. Abel
We are seeking for various individuals to help out in our parish in cleaning and mainte-nance of our facilities. If you like to help in this parish ministry please call Fr. Abel

Abel

Gospel: Jn 16:12-15
R. Alleluia, alleluia. Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Ho-
ly Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come. R. Alleluia, alleluia.
R. Aleluya, aleluya.
R. Aleluya.
Jesus said to his disciples: "I have much more to tell you, but you can-not bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you."
