Psalm 15 describes the life of justice and the re-ward of joy in God’s presence. We know that jus-tice always involves service. Can we find joy in service, perhaps even in suffering? Saint Paul writes to the Colossians that his life of suffering service to them and to the other churches is a source of joy to him. His relation-ship with them, although filled with affliction, is its own reward, as he brings people into relation-ship with Jesus Christ. Abraham and Sarah, the righteous elderly couple of the Old Testament, are emblematic of this kind of relationship. Abraham welcomes “strangers” with eager hospitality, not knowing that his visitors are divine messengers, even the Holy One of Israel! His spouse, Sarah, does all she can to aid Abraham in making their guests comfortable and welcome. In return for their generous hospitality, the childless aged couple are rewarded with a blessing—a son, Isaac. How do they differ from Martha, though? Mar-tha allows her duties and service to overwhelm her with anxiety. Abraham fairly leaps for joy to be of service to his guests. If you are a Martha, the lesson is to keep serving but find the joy that gives true meaning to your service.

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS

St. Thomas is preparing food for the “Table” at the Presbyterian Church every third Thursday of each month. We hope you will use the sign-up sheet so we know what food you bring and who the volunteer helpers will be on that Thursday. We need potatoes, carrots, ham, green beans, and milk. The sign-up sheet for the food is on the “Table” board and a half barrel marked “Table” underneath where you can put food the Sunday before. This is on the NW corner of the Hall.

THE TABLE

We will resume the Adora-tion of the Blessed Sacra-ment on Friday, August 2nd, from 9am to 9pm. Mass will be celebrated at 12pm. Please come and join us for Adoration on this First Fri-

day. We invite you to sign up for an hour of ado-ration during the 12 hours. The sign-up sheet is on the parish bulletin board in the church hall. Please consider signing up for an hour to ensure we have every hour covered, and hopefully more than one person per hour can come.

BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION

Lately, I have noticed that people continue to park in areas that are designated to be always open spaces because of hazards that are associated with those spaces. We have plenty of parking spaces in the church parking lot. Please do not park along the fence and/or the space in front of the stairs, in the corner of the back of the hall/church. By parking there, the vehicles are creating a dangerous sit-uation. Also, please help us to keep the doors closed. During the summer, we have the air condition-ing and the heater during the winter on a schedule so that it will be comfortable during the church services. Unfortunately, when people leave the doors open, the church will never cool down during the summer or be warm during the winter. Please help us by having all the doors of the church and hall closed. Thank you in advance for your support in these very important issues. May God continue to bless our parish of St. Thomas Aquinas, Fr. Abel

Gospel: Lk 10:38-42

R. Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed are they who have kept the word with a generous heart and yield a harvest through perse-

verance. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

R. Aleluya, aleluya.

R. Aleluya.

Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Mar-tha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat be-side the Lord at his feet listen-ing to him speak. Martha, bur-dened with much serving, came to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me." The Lord said to her in reply, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her."
