“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Mt 28:18-20

The Most Holy Trinity "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." It's easy to take this formula for granted. Every time we attend Mass, we make the
sign of the cross and say "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." Many of us also make the sign of the cross
before meals or to begin our personal prayers. Because we are so used to hearing this Trinitarian reference to the one God in three Persons,
we might tend to gloss over its significance. But today, on the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, we stop to remind ourselves what
this really means. We might begin by remembering that Christianity is absolutely unique in its belief in the Trinity. No other religion claims such a remarkable
doctrine--that God is one in three. And it's important to understand that Christians didn't make this up; it was revealed to us directly from
Christ himself. As we hear in today's Gospel, and elsewhere throughout the four Gospels, Jesus taught about this mysterious union
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we follow what he taught.
Perhaps the most beautiful part of this great mystery of God's nature is what it means for us. We believe in a God whose very essence is made
up of loving relationships between three divine Persons. It follows that, as people made in God's image (cf. Gn 1:27), we are to live in loving relationships. We are made to love: to love God, to love one
another, and to love ourselves. Our God is not a force, a power, or an idea. Our God is a personal God who loves each of us and
calls us to do the same.

Vocations Committee What is religious life all about, if not to proclaim by word and
example the holy mystery of God in Christ? The process of serious evangelization is needed in order to build
up the whole people of God, bringing all to conversion. Who is there to do this?

Pastoral Care Ministry Sick, Homebound & Hospitalized
The Pastoral Care Ministry is composed of compassionate, caring lay ministers whose primary function is to distribute the Eucharist
to parishioners who are temporarily or permanently unable to attend Mass. Ministers make home visits on either Wednesdays or
Thursdays (if desired) and on Sundays. They visit those hospitalized at Munster Community Hospital. If you or a loved one are open to visits by Pastoral Care, please contact Deacon Dave Kapala, Pastoral Care Coordinator directly by phone at
(219) 836-8610, ext. 313 or [email protected].

PLEASE REMEMBER THEM Please pray for the priests and deacons who have served the Diocese of Gary so faithfully and whose anniversaries of death are this week:
June 1: Rev. Dominic A. Pallone (1983) June 5: Rev. Timothy E. Benante (1988) Msgr. William L. Martin (2006)
THE HOLY TRINITY Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Mt 28:18-20)
Legend has it that St. Patrick used the shamrock as a model for explaining the Holy Trinity. Just as the shamrock is one, it has three distinct parts. There is no question about it. You see the three leaves and you think “shamrock”. Just so with God. God is three distinct persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — yet, when you see any of the three, you see God. The Father is not the Son or the Spirit. The Son is not the Father or the Spirit. The Spirit is not the Father or the Son. Yet they are all the One, True God. This is an extremely difficult concept for people to teach as well as to understand. There is a story about St. Augustine walking on the beach as he struggled to contemplate the mystery of the Trinity so as to be able to teach it better. As he was walking, he saw a boy in front of him who had dug a hole in the sand. The boy had a bucket and was going out to the sea again and again and bringing some water to pour into the hole. St. Augustine asked the boy, “What are you doing?” “I'm going to pour the entire ocean into this hole.” “That is impossible. The whole ocean will not fit in the hole you have made,” said St. Augustine. The boy replied, “And you cannot fit the Trinity in your tiny little brain.” At that, the boy vanished. St. Augustine realized that he had been talking to an angel the entire time. Is the mystery of the Holy Trinity impossible to fit into our tiny brains? Yes. Does that mean that we cannot have an appreciation of the great mystery? No. We can come to understand, at least partially, the wonder and glory of God. We have come to understand the Trinity in terms of the roles each person of the Trinity plays in our history and in our lives. God the Father is acknowledged as the Creator, the one who made all things and brought us into existence. God the Son is the Redeemer, the one who died and rose that He might destroy death and restore life to His people. The love between the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit, is the Sanctifier, the one who pours grace upon grace into us, giving us the opportunity to grow closer to God day by day. May God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit bless you and your loved ones this day and may you know Him more fully day by day! FAITH ACTION: Spend an hour in prayer today meditating upon the three persons of the Most Holy Trinity.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE I didn’t graduate with honors. I was honored just to graduate.
~ Melanie White Your families are extremely proud of you. You can't imagine the sense of relief they are experiencing. This would be a most opportune time to ask for money.

GOODBYE AND HELLO Last Sunday, we said goodbye to the Pastoral Council members who have served for three years: Paul Liszewski (our outgoing Pastoral Council Chairperson), Mary Kretz, Bill McDunn, and Ruth Yothment. Thank you, once again, for your generous service to me and to the parish.
This week, we congratulate four parishioners who were selected on Pentecost Sunday for three year terms on the Pastoral Council: Wendy Jasinski, Nancy Klawitter, Kurt Popovich, and Cheryl Staniszewski. I am sure that the other members of the Council are looking forward to working with you. Here’s to another good year as, together, we guide our parish into the future.
GRADUATIONS, GRADUATIONS, GRADUATIONS This is, most certainly, the season of graduations. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate, first of all, the eighth grade class at St. Thomas More School who celebrated their Commencement yesterday, Saturday, May 30th. I wish you all the best as you prepare for your move into high school. To our high school parishioners who are graduating this summer, I wish you a warm and hearty congratulations as well. May God be with you as you prepare to enter college, trade school, or the work force. This is a big step for you. Please remember to keep God in your lives. Pray daily, go to church regularly, and do not be afraid to ask God for His help. To our college graduates, wow! Congratulations on a job well done. I know that many of you are already talking graduate school. Good luck to you in whatever you hope to do. God has blessed you all richly. Make sure that you thank him by living faith-filled lives.

Lost & Found—Please Help! If you attended our recent Parish Appreciation Dinner, your help is requested. A wooden vase was inadvertently taken or displaced
from our entry table that evening (it was being used as a hat stand), and can not be located. This item was made in Slovakia and has great sentimental value to its owner. If you, or someone you know, knows the whereabouts of this vase, please drop it off
or call the Parish Office at (219) 836-9151. Thank you!

St. Thomas More Concerts Delight All! Spring Band Concert
The St. Thomas More School Band performed with excellence, once again, as they treated family and friends to their annual Spring Band Concert on
Thursday, May 7th in the Gym. Short sleeve shirts and shorts replaced the normal formal band attire, thanks to a malfunction in the
air-conditioning; we can’t wait for the improvements earmarked by our Capital
Campaign! A repeat performance was held on Friday morning
for the students and staff. Despite the warm and uncomfortable temperatures, the band sounded fabulous at both
performances! Our school band consists of over 85 students. Intermediate Band
(Grades 3 & 4) and the Senior Band (Grades 6, 7 & 8) performed several songs together and will continue
to play over the summer. Thank you Mr. Rick Mlynarski, STMS band director,
for another outstanding year of music at St. Thomas More School.
We’ll see you & the band at the Munster 4th of July Parade!
Spring Choir Concert The sounds of summer highlighted the St. Thomas More School Spring Choir concert, featuring the vocal talents of
our student choir members in Grades 4 through 8. From spiritually moving to light and peppy, the music selections
brought guests on a rollercoaster of emotions and all performances were superb!
A few props and some
“head-gear” and the scene was set for the
next song! Our thanks to
Mrs. Brenda Bondi, St. Thomas More School music
teacher, for her direction and guidance of our young vocalists.
Great job students!
