Stewardship Message

One of the most well known and beloved passages in scripture is the gentle invitation of our Lord in today’s Gospel reading: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” When we need physical rest, we sleep or take a nap. When we need emotional rest, we sometimes take a vacation. But how do we find spiritual rest? How do we discover Christ’s peace as we grapple with the complex issues of life deep in our hearts? Good stewards find their rest in the Lord. Reflect this week on what you do to welcome the peace of Christ into your heart.

Dear St. Thomas family,

Thank you for my ordination gifts and the wonderful reception! Your generosity is a real blessing. You will see me wearing the dalmatics during Mass and the gift card will come in handy as I begin my ministry as a deacon. Your support during my formation has been greatly appreciated. I am truly blessed to be part of such a generous and loving parish family. I look forward to serving as your deacon.

You are all in my prayers. Please keep me and the other new deacons in your prayers. Thank you, again, for your support and encouragement!

God Bless,

Deacon Tony

Devil’s Garage Sale

There is a well-known legend about the devil once having a

garage sale. He had all his tools on display, each with a price

tag. There was one old tool, much worn out, which was priced

much higher than the others.

Satan was asked what it was. “That was discouragement” was

his reply. “Why is it so priced high?” “Because” Satan an-

swered, “it is more useful to me than all the others. I use it to

get into a man’s mind and once inside, I can use him to do my

work. It is greatly worn out because I use it all the time. It is my

favorite tool I have used it on nearly everybody, yet few people

know that it belongs to me”.

According to the fable, Satan’s price for discouragement was so

high that nobody bought it. So he is still using it. Is it any won-

der that we all experience discouragement from time to time?

Yet, when it becomes a way of life, it is capable of killing both

spirituality and physically.

Connect this legend with today’s Gospel passage: When we

feel discouraged and hopeless to whom we must turn to?

“Come to me, all who labor and are burdened and I will give

you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am

meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your-

selves.”

May God Bless You,

Fr. George
