Accessibility within the STAAR Program
• Goal – to ensure that each student can interact appropriately with the content, presentation, and response modes of the state assessment.
• The various features and accommodations made available on STAAR paper and online tests are also designed to be the same or similar to those accommodations commonly used during classroom instruction.

Accessibility Features
Previously referred to as “Allowable Test Administration Procedures and Materials,” accessibility features may be provided to students based on their needs.
Locally Approved Designated Supports
Previously referred to as “Type 1 accommodations” or “linguistic accommodations,” locally approved designated supports include accommodations that may be made available to students who meet eligibility criteria.
Designated Supports Requiring TEA Approval
Previously referred to as “Type 2 accommodations,” these designated supports require the submission of an Accommodation Request Form to TEA.

Rules for the use of computers during testing
1. Rooms to be used for ONLINE test administrations MUST have existing network connections or adequate wireless coverage. (ex. PE office, Instructional Coach office, Parent Educator office…..)
2. Computers used for ONLINE test administrations MUST be existing computers currently on the PSJA ISD network.
3. Computers that have not been used in some time MUST be approved for use by a District Technician.
4. No personal laptops are allowed. NON-NEGOTIABLE
5. If you will be setting up a new computer lab for testing please consult with Hector Rodriguez, MIS Director ext. 1243

STAAR A is an accommodated online version of STAAR for
students who meet eligibility requirements.
STAAR A will be the same as STAAR in the following
ways:
-Same passing Standards
-Same time limits
-Same assessed curriculum
-Same test blueprint
-Same progress measures
STAAR L is a linguistically accommodated English version of the STAAR for EOC
mathematics, science, and social studies assessments. TEA provides the STAAR L
for English language learners (ELLs). STAAR L is an online testing program.
STAAR A will be differentthan STAAR in the following
ways:
-No field test questions
-Online administration
-Embedded accommodations and accessibility features
