Connecting Churches to Change Our World
by Tracy Jaggers, D.Min. LEADERSHIP MATTERS by Roger Yancey, D.Min.
October 22, 2015 To Dr. Roger Yancey, the TEBA Admin Team and the member churches of the TEBA, Today is a day mixed with emotion. We are both excited and experiencing sorrow. Almost ten years ago we came to the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association. We have seen God do great things during these years and we have built lifetime friendships. In past few months though, we have come to realize that God has a new ministry for us. In seeking what that step might look like, we were contacted by Gateway Baptist Association in Edwardsville, IL. They asked us to pray about becoming their Director of Missions. The association consists of about 50 churches and missions, and
encompasses the suburban and rural areas, just east of St. Louis, Missouri across the Mississippi River. After much prayer, a new era is beginning for me and my family. God made it crystal clear in our visits with Gateway that this position is where He needs us to serve. I have learned a great deal here, and we know God has opened this new door of ministry. The Lord is going to utilize the training, skills, experience and gifts I received here, to glorify Him there. The Gateway Baptist Association in Edwardsville, Illinois voted on me today as their Director of Missions, and I have accepted. We will miss each of you immensely. We covet your prayers in this new opportunity and if you are ever in the St. Louis area, our door is always open to you. Please, continue to pray for a speedy resolution to our home situation here as well. We have loved serving alongside Roger, Pauline, the TEBA staff, and the ministerial leaders of the TEBA. This association has supported us, encouraged us and generously provided for us. Thank you all! Effective today, October 22, 2015, I submit my resignation to the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association. My expected final day is November 13, 2015. It has been an amazing ten years! You will always be a part of our family. Let’s keep in touch.
We love you all dearly, Tracy, Lorna, and Rachel Jaggers
This has been a year of transition for the ministry of the TEBA. With the departure of a Financial Secretary and a Ministry Assistant in the last few months; we now have two new support team members that have joined us in the last few weeks. Additionally you will recall that Stewart Pickle, our part-time Church Planting and Ethnic Ministry Consultant, retired in July, and now we will be saying good bye to Tracy Jaggers, our Church Development Associate, who is leaving this month to become a Director of Missions in Illinois. While change is always a challenge; it is also an opportunity. This is the right time for us to ask ourselves the questions about why we exist as an Association of churches and how we will move forward together in the future. I hope you will be a part of that conversation. In consultation with the Associational Leadership Council, a strategy has been developed to take the initial next steps. This will include a survey that will go out to all ministers and member churches. In January, we will take the time during the Minister’s Conference to get your direct feedback. We will also have additional gatherings of smaller groups to get the best possible understanding of what our member churches need as they move into the future.
So what will happen in the immediate future regarding our Ministry Staff Team? For those of you that were part of the Association in 2004 when I first came to the TEBA will remember that we were in a similar situation related to staff. We took our time, discovered our needs, committed to a strategy, and then sought staff that would help in fulfilling it. The process lends itself to ensuring that the Association will have a future and not just a continued history built on yesterday’s successes. We are called to more and we intend to be diligent in seeking God’s best for the member churches of the TEBA and trust that you will join us on the journey. In Kingdom service,
O U R N E W
