    Information about ELLs

@ HPSHThere are @ 170 kids who have an ELL label at

    Highland Sr.

Many of these students scored high enough on the

ACCESS/MCA/GRAD/ETC to not require direct ELL

services--they are better served in the grade level

    classroom.

@10 of these students are in the new Language

    Academy program.

    Level 3 and 4 Students

Therefore, most of you will be seeing mostly levels 3

and 4 ELL students in your classes. I know that

there are some exceptions to this.

    New Model

There is a new ELL model in SPPS that is movingaway from sheltered EL classes and moving to more

co-taught classes. This is happening mostly for

levels 2, 3, and 4. But we dont have enough staff to

coteach with all departments, classes, etc.

    Feedback/Correctives

Focus on 1-3 errors per assignment that students

need to work on. For the next assignment, build on

    from there.

    13/14

    Examine your Objective

Think of a goal for one of your lessons from today or

    the recent past or future.

Unpack that objective--what language would a

student need to know and be able to use to complete

    this objective successfully?

Then model that to ensure students understand how

    it should look/sound.
