BRT System Opening Delay

Opening changed from December 2019 to March 2020

Cause of Delays:

− Unmarked utilities and objects causing construction

interruptions

− Compounding subsurface issues delayed executing

final construction with utility providers

− Lags from construction of private developments along

the most densely developed portions of the BRT route

Remaining Major Construction Goals for System Opening

• Station Platforms

– Start construction on remaining 6 platforms

– 46 top slabs (finish surface), tactile strips, and rub-rails

– Install canopies at 18 platforms & lighting at 16 platforms

– Install Platform furniture, trash receptacles, windscreens, and hand rails

– Complete service connections to remaining 29 Platforms

• All paving, traffic signage and roadway striping installed.

• All traffic and pedestrian signals energized and operating.

• All 27 BRT buses outfitted with CAD/AVL, APCs and Carey Fingers

• Fiber optic communications network installed and activated.

• Dedicated, continuous, unimpeded busway ready for use.

• All street and pedestrian lighting installed and operating.

Major Near Term Construction Priorities

• 34 platforms – energize power cabinets; install top-slabs, tactile strips,

rub-rails, canopies, signs, lighting, hand rails, windscreens, trash

cans, map cases, wayfinding signs, integrated art, furniture, electrical

and controller cabinets, VMS, TVMs and Clipper Card readers.

• Prepping or constructing 12 remaining platforms – Focus Downtown

• Standing, energizing and activating signal poles and street lights.

• Curb to curb paving in Zones 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 + Slurry Seal Zone 3

• Fiber network installation and activation.

• Northern Layover.

• San Leandro Transit Center.

Operational Readiness - OCC Preparations

• Finalize BRT Emergency Operations Plans (EOP) for OCC

• Adding BRT Line Management and exclusive BRT console

• 11/5/19 - Tabletop exercise for BRT incident response readiness

• Conduct headway monitoring training for line management

• Hire four (4) additional BRT Platform Agents

• Establish SOP for video download and retrieval

• Collaborate with Safety, Security, Legal, and Operations departments

Operational Readiness - Road Supervision Staff

District's Transit Asset Management (TAM) Process.
