The wellbeing of students and families is so important,
particularly during this challenging
time. We had such positive feedback about our last “Wellbeing
Wednesday” we thought we would do it again this Wednesday, 1st
September. You will have your normal Wednesday zoom with your
teacher, then spend the rest of the day choosing activities from
the grid.

It can be tricky to focus on handwriting at home when you don’t
have your school books with the lines you are used to. Today we are
going to learn about where your letters should be positioned on the
lines. This way you will know what you’re writing should look like
regardless of what paper you are using when working from home.
Watch this video of Miss Marnoch explaining today’s lesson. Here is
a PDF of lined paper that could be helpful for this lesson and
other writing tasks. 1. Write the alphabet in your neatest
handwriting. Write all head letters blue, all body letters
green and all tail letters purple. If you don’t have these colours
choose your own. 2. Sort letters into 3 groups, similar to what we
did above but this time you are going to sort
the letters under the titles: • Head letters • Body letters • Tail
letters
3. Re-write the sentences below in your neatest handwriting. - The
quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. - The five boxing wizards
jump quickly. - My girl wove six dozen plaid jackets before she
quit. - Farmer jack realized that big yellow quilts were expensive.
- Brown jars prevented the mixture from freezing too quickly. You
may have noticed something special about these sentences. They are
called pangrams. A pangram is a sentence that uses every letter of
the alphabet at least once. Extra challenge: Write a pangram or a
sentence that uses as many letters of the alphabet as
possible.

Hidden numbers What numbers are hidden? How do you know? How can
you prove it?
Place value -Stepping stones card game Here is Miss Humphrey
explaining how to play stepping stones. You will need:
- Game board (you can draw it or use this PDF) - Playing cards
(Ace-9) or 0-9 dice - A pencil
How to play · Throw two 9-sided dice or turn over 2 cards in the
0-9 range. · The two numbers are used to make a 2-digit number
which is recorded on one of the stepping stones. When placing
numbers on stepping stones, you must ensure the numbers are in the
correct order (see example). · If a student rolls the dice and
makes a 2-digit number that does not fit as part of the sequence,
they need to put their cards at the bottom of the pile and try
again. · The aim of the game is to record all numbers thrown
without missing a turn. Other ways to play
• If you would like to play making 3-digit numbers, you will need
to create a gameboard that has 0 in the first stepping stone and
1000 in the last one.
• To play with a partner, use two game boards. Take turns flipping
the cards and filling numbers. You will miss a turn if you can’t
record your number on a stepping stone. First to fill all of the
stones wins!

Mindfulness task Good things are all around us. Even in tough
times. Today I want you to write a list of 3 good things from
today. They may be as simple as a pretty cloud, a nice bite of
sandwich or a smile from your mum. Have a think and write down the
first 3 that come to mind.
PDH- Growth Mindset Children with a growth mindset believe that
intelligence can be developed. These students see school as a place
to develop their abilities and think of challenges as opportunities
to grow. Watch the video to see an example. This is a story of two
seeds – both planted on the same day, in the same soil, in the same
garden bed. One has a growth mindset—with a curious desire to grow
and reach the outside world—while the other has a fixed
mindset—filled with fear and choosing to remain stagnant in its
soil. Nobody is perfect... appreciate your mistakes and failures
and switch on your growth mindset, to learn from them. Watch this
slideshow of Ms Cheney revealing the ‘magic’ word and for today’s
lesson. Here is an activity to develop your growth mindset by
thinking about three goals.
1. Write three things you can’t do or have trouble doing. 2. Write
‘yet’ at the end of each sentence. 3. Now write what you can do to
work towards achieving your goals by adding, ‘but I
can...’ 4. Option – choose one of the goals you are working towards
and draw a picture of you
working towards achieving that goal.
Sound 2
To play this game you will need a dice. (you could use a dice app
on a device if you don’t have one). You will need to decide if you
are going to use sound 1 or sound 2. You could mix and match if you
would like. Roll the dice and write the sound it corelates with on
a piece of paper. Do this four times. If you get the same number
roll again. You should have 4 different sounds on four different
pieces of paper. Move the paper around to see how many words you
can make. You may just like to use those letters or you can add
some more in to make bigger words. See how many you can make.
Writing - Comprehension As you all know, it is super important to
continue reading each and every day. Today I want you to pick up a
book and read it. You might read a reader, a picture book or you
might choose to read a chapter from a novel. Below are several
comprehension questions. Choose 5 questions and answer them in full
sentences. Each answer should be 2-4 sentences long. Watch this
video of Miss Marnoch answering the questions below in full
sentences.
Where is the story set? How do you know? Imagine you have not read
the book, by looking at the book cover, what would you think the
story is about? What happened at the beginning, middle and end of
the story? What do you think the author is trying to tell their
readers? Is there a hidden message?
Who are the characters? Tell me about them. Did you learn anything
from this story that you can use in your own life?
If your story had a sequel, what do you think would happen in the
next book? How did the story make you feel? Why? Does the story
remind you of any other books you’ve read? What were they and why?
What do you think was the most important part of the story?

Mindfulness Activity When we bounce a ball it can bounce way up
high and it always comes down again. Draw yourself with some bouncy
balls to show that life can be like this too. We have up and down
bouncy days too, just like a bouncy ball.
Science Saving Electricity Last week, we looked around our house at
all the places we used electricity. We found so many places we used
electricity, just about everywhere! We also learned that
electricity often comes from non-renewable sources like coal that
causes greenhouse gas pollution which contributes to global
warming. It’s important to save electricity wherever we can. Think
about all the ways you might be able to save electricity around
your house. Could you turn off some lights? Could you watch less
TV? What about your air conditioning in summer? Do you need to have
it set at quite such a low temperature? Miss P and Otto went to a
friend’s place to teach her how to save electricity Saving

Thursday English- Writing Today we are starting to learn about
writing procedures. A procedure is a set of SPECIFIC step by step
instructions directing you on how to successfully complete an
activity. Procedures have 4 main parts: TITLE – Tells us what the
instructions are going to get us to do. The title always starts
with ‘How To..’ AIM (GOAL) – Tells us what we should have achieved
by the end. MATERIALS – Tells us EVERYTHING we will need to have to
complete the procedure. METHOD (STEPS) – Tells us EXACTLY how to
complete the task. Today we are going to focus on the Title, Aim
and Materials. You are going to write the Title, Aim and Materials
sections for two or three (2 - 3) procedures.

The word present can mean a gift, and it also describes what is
happening right now, in this moment. Being present is all about
connecting with the here and now. If you can, go outside, if not
look out of a window so that you can connect with the earth. Wonder
at the beauty of the natural world. Breathe, taste, smell, touch,
and be present… Sit quietly and pay attention to what is going on
right now using your five senses.

this Video to practise interpreting information from graphs before
you begin the activity.
The students in class 3R were asked to vote for their favourite
fruit. They were only allowed to vote once. The results are shown
in the picture graph. Each smiley face represents one vote. Show
that you can interpret the information shown in the graph by
answering the questions below.

popular? 3. How many children voted for pear? 4. How many more
children voted for
apple than pear? 5. How many children voted
altogether? 6. Which fruits were voted for by less
than 7 children? 7. Did more children vote for pear or
banana? This picture graph is based on information collected in a
local preschool class. Each child voted for their favourite animal.
Each animal picture represents one vote. This time you need to
write simple sentences to describe the data display. Some sentence
ideas could be ‘The most popular....’, The least popular...’, More
children voted for___ than ___’, ‘____ children voted for …’
Year 1 aim for 3 sentences. Year 2 aim for 5 – 6 sentences.

Mindfulness Activity We’ve all fallen in the playground and found
ourselves on the ground. Life can be like this too sometimes and it
can be very hard to get back up and keep going. But when we do,
things begin to become clearer for us and we can see a way forward.
Write and draw about a time you had to just pick yourself up and
keep going.
Art - Weaving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have
used grasses and reeds from their local environment for thousands
of years. Items needed for hunting as well as for carrying and
collecting food were made, along with ritual objects for use in
religious ceremonies. The parts of many plants provide fibre to
make string, bags, rope, baskets and mats. Weaving is physically
hard work and is done mostly by the women. ‘When I do weaving and
gathering of the materials it connects me and I feel connected to
the land,’ Flora Warria.
Today you are going to have a go at weaving. You will need some
wool and either sticks, paddle pop sticks or a paper plate
depending on which one you choose to make - the butterfly, a
rainbow or a turtle. Watch this video of Ms Cheney demonstrating
how to weave.

Lastly) to show the order of the instructions.
• Nouns to tell us what objects we are going to use. • Verbs to
tell us what we are doing with the objects • Adjectives and adverbs
to describe the object or the verb.
Today you are going to create the method for a recipe for: Toasted
Cheese Sandwich.
You still need to write the Title, Aim and Materials first. Watch

After you have finished you can reread and highlight your nouns
(green), verbs (yellow), adjectives and adverbs (blue) and
sequential language (pink).

Instructions Challenge: See how many times you can successfully
shoot your rolled up socks into the basket. Watch Mrs Oakes having

• Mark a clear ‘starting line’ for your basketball toss. • Take 3
big steps from your starting line and place a basket, bucket or
container at
the end. • Stand at your starting line and throw your socks with
your right hand. • Throw your socks, aiming for the basket, 10
times with your right hand. Use tally marks
to record each time you get them in. • Then, do the same thing 10
times with your left hand. • Graph your results in your
workbook.

Mindfulness Activity Think about how you are feeling right now.
Choose some coloured pencils, texta or crayons and use those
