Long distance hiking trail
Stage No. 16 of the Alpe Adria Trail: Falkerthaus/Lärchenhütte - BadKleinkirchheim
2
Description
SummaryThe scent of Alpine valerian, the “gold of theNockberge Mountains”, accompanies this stage ofthe Alpe Adria Trail which starts at the Falkerthausand offers a wide variety of views. The trail leads tothe Falkert and the Rödresnock via theHundsfeldscharte. Following the scent of valerianyou will hike across the Schwarzkofel to the “MåtlSepp” tavern, and then on towards BadKleinkirchheim.
DescriptionFrom the Falkerthaus the route first goes along theroad and past the Lärchenhütte lodge to theHundsfeldhütte lodge. Here hiking trail no. 11 goesuphill rather steeply following the mountain streamas far as the Hundsfeldscharte. Here you change tohiking trail no. 09 and tackle the final ascent ontothe Falkert (2,308 metres). From the Falkert there isan impressive view of the Nockberge Mountains, and if your eyesight is good enough you can see asfar as the mountain village of St. Lorenzen obReichenau and to the Karawanken. To orientateyourself more easily, on the Falkert you will find astone tablet showing the most important mountainsin the surrounding area. After a short rest, asomewhat stony descent will take you down to theFalkertscharte and further on to the wide mountainridge towards the Rödresnock (2,310 metres). Fromthe Rödresnock it is worth taking a look back onto
the rock faces of the Falkert, because here with a bitof luck you will be able to watch the chamois.Continuing on hiking trail no. 09 the route goesslightly downhill onto the Schwarzkofel (1,723metres) and then somewhat more steeply downhillvia Alpine meadows and through light stocks oflarch trees to the Moschelitzenalm Alpine pasture. From here we follow the old roadway as far as thePlaßbichlsattel and then change to the“Rottenstein/Bad Kleinkirchheim” hiking trail, whichleads directly to the “Måtl Sepp” tavern. It is wellworth stopping here in any event for a bite to eatand to take a look at the old watermill and thevalerian sculpture. The trail leads on along theKirchheim Valley halfway up the slope, past theStreitnighof tavern, following the road through theZirkitzen district and all the way to BadKleinkirchheim.

reached the summit cross on the Falkert. From theFalkert our route continues across theFalkertscharte to the Rödresnock, at 2,310 metresthe highest point of today’s hike. From here the trailfollows the scent of the Alpine valerian and leadsacross gentle Alpine meadows to the Schwarzkofeland then on to the Moschelitzenalm. We hikethrough forests with old larch and spruce trees tothe “Måtl Sepp” tavern. Next to the valeriansculpture we breathe in the scent of this ancientmedicinal plant, which has accompanied us all dayon our tour, one last time. We stop and rest at thismagical place, enjoying the rays of the afternoonsun. The trail then leads us on via field paths andasphalt farm access tracks to Bad Kleinkirchheim. Aspring which was tapped in medieval times flowsthrough the crypt beneath the Church of St. Kathreinand has been attributed with healing effects sincetime immemorial. The road into the centre of thevillage takes us right to the finishing point of today’sstage, the tourist information office in BadKleinkirchheim.
