Some of the members of the International Steering Committee of the Stainless Steel World Conference 2019.

It is a great honour and pleasure to have been chosen to be your Chairman for this eleventh edition of the Stainless Steel World Con-ference, for which I would like to thank you all.You now hold in your hands the Advance Conference Program, a culmination of the continuous improvement of the Stainless Steel World Conference in Maastricht. On behalf of the entire Steering Committee, we all cordially invite you to enjoy yourselves and have a pleasurable and profitable trip to the MECC in Maastricht in Novem-ber 2019.As usual, the global Steering Committee has assembled a confer-ence program of presentations, forums, and workshops based on peer-reviewed submissions of outstanding quality. We are confident that this conference will provide the perfect setting for companies through the entire supply chain to exchange ideas and explore future business opportunities. Based on the huge success of the 2017 forum discussion on “The Availability Of Materials”, we have prepared a special treat for this year’s Stainless Steel World Conference: “New Alloy Developments: Challenges & Opportunities”. We are looking forward to again filling the combined meeting rooms with delegates and will invite the attendees from the expo floor to join us in the discussion of this vital topic. The entire program has furthermore been designed to address a wide range of key topics relevant to the global stainless steel community throughout the entire supply chain from cradle to, well, cradle – see-ing as it is a recyclable, sustainable stainless steel chain. The topics include discussions on: corrosion, cladding, the automotive industry, additive manufacturing, welding, market trends, heat exchangers, ap-

plications, duplexes, as well as first-hand experience from end users. Bringing together, as usual, researchers, scientists, corrosion experts, welding engineers, manufacturers, EPCs, regulators, stockists, and other industry professionals from around the world, this event is a must-attend for everyone involved in the manufacture, application, and use of stainless steels. For neigh on 22 years, the Stainless Steel World Conference has been hosted at MECC in Maastricht and it has long since established itself as an outstanding international cornerstone for the exchange of knowledge and experience on corrosion-resistant alloys and their impact on global markets. Hosted in parallel with the almost sold-out Stainless Steel World Exhibition and Machining World Exhibition, this conference provides an excellent platform to network in a collegial atmosphere both with professional peers and with world-leading manufacturers, suppliers, and end-users. For me personally, this conference marks one decade of attending and participating in both the Stainless Steel World Conference and Exhibition, and I always leave the event with new ideas to take home to my own network, stimulated and encouraged in the work with stainless steels. Thus, it is with great positive energy that I look forward to welcoming you all at the Stainless Steel World Conference 2019 at MECC in Maastricht. On behalf of the entire Steering Committee, I cordially invite you to join us at such a perfect opportunity in November!

Yours, Lars Rose

Sandvik is a high-technology, engineering group with advanced products and has a world-leading position within selected areas. Worldwide business activities are conducted through representation in more than 130 countries. Sandvik invests about SEK 3 billion each year in research and development and more than 2,700 employees are active in this area. The Group has about 5500 active patents. The Sandvik Family of duplex stainless steels is highly corrosion resistant especially when it comes to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and erosion corrosion. Their higher yield strength translates into signifi-cantly higher pressure tolerance and lower weight, which in turn enables more compact system designs. The newest offering in the Sandvik duplex evolution is Sandvik SAF 2707 HD. This is a hyper-duplex material devel-oped for critical applications in oil refineries and other process industries.Sandvik offers a broad program of high-performance tubular materials in-cluding super austenitic high-nickel alloys, which contribute to improved productivity, reliability and cost efficiency in a wide range of applications. Examples are: duplex stainless steels, high-temperature tubes, Safurex ™ titanium and zirconium and specific Sandvik grades designed for use in highly corrosive environments. The company’s high-temperature tube portfolio covers a range of austenitic stainless steels and nickel alloys as well as iron– chromium–aluminium (FeCrAl) alloys that can be used at temperatures up to 1250 degrees. The company’s aim is to help fight off high-temperature corrosion, avoid unplanned shutdowns, and boost productivity.https://www.materials.sandvik

Heat Exchangers are an integral and everyday part of a multitude of our process industries from space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power stations, chemical & petrochemical plants, refineries, natural-gas processing, and sewage treatment. As with all industrial products they are continually under development as end-user needs evolve. This work-shop will provide a discussion of some of the present-day issues and offer some solutions and food for thought.• A brief overview and applications• A panel of experts from across the heat exchanger supply chain will

address topics such as:

• What are the some of the major challenges within the heat exchanger supply chain at present?

- Challenges with using heat exchangers? – Technical, commercial, availability, skills?

- Looking at current challenges with heat exchangers? – Availability of product forms, Fabrication /Tube to TS, Life-cycle costs, Material selec-tion, Operating condition, Quality assurance

• In the high-end industries is there a need to shift from low alloy carbon steels to duplex/high-nickel alloys?

Potential opportunities for manufac-turers and suppliers from outside Oman. Prognoses for amounts of stainless steel used in coming years.

2. Types of projects involving stainless steels + amounts now and in the future. Which grades + amounts. What are the specific corrosion chal-lenges facing the use of stainless steels in Oman. Case studies

There will be the opportunity to pose questions to government and industrial experts.

This year’s Welding workshop is very much open to answering your ques-tions on a wide variety of welding topics and to providing a platform to help you gain knowledge in areas that might not be a focal point within your own organization. As an appetizer we would like to start with a discussion on the welding of Duplex Stainless Steels. Quite often we hear that welding these alloys and, in particular, lean duplex stainless steels is hard to accomplish. Therefore, as part of this workshop we would like to show you that it is not so difficult if you understand the starting conditions of duplex stainless steels and also the cooling speed of this dual phase material. We look forward to discussing these aspects with you as well as a multitude of other welding issues. So please bring along your queries, challenges, and difficulties to the floor and profit from this opportunity to learn and share knowledge and information. To-gether with Sandra le Manchet from Industeel Creusot CRMC and Rob Spelt from Spelt Engineering Company we will form a panel to lead this discuss. Jan Jonsson from Outokumpu will contribute to the discussion on Quality Control aspects of duplex stainless steels using the ferrite scope.

Increasingly, additive manufacturing is becoming an integral part of the production process of demanding applications whether this be in the aerospace, oil & gas, automotive, chemical, or biomedical industries. In the workshop we will look at some of the state-of-the-art solutions that are currently taking place in the additive manufacturing industry for metals. Why are these pro-cesses being developed and what are their advantag-es/disadvantages? We will also look at where there areopportunities at present, why these have occurred, and how some solutions might possibly find their way into transforming your business for the future. Additionally, the move to increase standardization, guidelines, and auditing to guarantee quality within 3D printing will be examined.
