Engine

Shipman 28 has a 12HP Farymann diesel engine as standard. Farymann in WesternGermany is one of Europe’s biggest makers of samll water cooled marine diesel engines. The Farymann diesel is exported to about 80 countries all over the world where there are service agents.

The choice of engines does not only depend on it’s reliable and vibrationless running andSimple service but above all on the safety.

In Shipman 28 the engine is combined with hydraulic transmission which gives plenty of Space at the installation. The engine is connected to the Hydromarin-patented hydraulicmotor. The hydraulic installation is equipped with crash-proof controls which means that you can reverse from full speed ahead. It is controlled with a single lever which is a goodThing in narrow harbours etc. The hydraulic system has a capacity for connection extraEquipment e.g. Anchor winch, autopilot, extra generator etc.

The engine is mounted on vibration-absorbing rubber mountings and can be pulled intothe cabin for service thanks to the power transmission system.

Particulars:One cyclinder, 35.5 cub in. 582cc cylinder volume, 12 HP. Torsional moment 2.9 kpm at2,500 rpm. Fuel consumption 3 pints/h, 1.6l/h. Fuel tank of 16.5 gallons, 75l, gives a cruising range of 300 Nm. Bosch 1HP electric starter of Bendix-type. Lucas marine alternator with transistor regulator 12v, 400 W.

Sound volume in cockpit with standard installation 74 db A at 2,500 rpm. Water-jacketed silencer, electric temperature controllingand changeable water filter. Water injected exhaust system can be dried from instrument Panel.

The hydraulic motor has housing tube and shaft of non-corrosive stainless steel.Water-lubricated outer shaft bearing of teflon. Thrust bearing lubricated by hydraulic oil.Supporting of shaft but without bracket. Propeller secured when sailing. With narrow left-hand rotating standard propeller - 2 bladed so called IOR-prop. Speed about 6.8 knots.Alternative prop. Equipment for higher speeds can be delivered as extra equipment.
