the FarraQut Male Quartet. In later years, her father estimated that he had sung with that group at 300 funerals during his lifetime. Mabel was organist for many years at the Congregational Church.

In January 1926, Margaret and Helen were 1ired to play on the new radio station, KMA, billed as the Carter Sisters. They interchanged instruments: Margaret on piano and saxophone; Helen on banjo and piano. Stanley Rucker of Oakland, Iowa, joined them and they became the Cornhusker Trio. Margaret recalls that listeners would know the dirt roads from Farragut to Shenandoah were passable if the group played on their 6:00 a.m. live broadcast. Stan and Helen were married In 1928. Their only child is Kenneth Eugene Rucker.

Earl May usually had on his KMA staff about 40 entertainers. One such group was the Phillppino Collegians, among whom was Pedro " Pete" Tavora. A friendship developed between him and Margaret and they were married January 4, 1930. The Cornhuskers then became a quartet: Pete on guitar, Margaret on accordion, Helen on string bass and Stan on violin, with Helen and Stan as vocalists. This versatile group played many kinds of music including, gypsy, Spanish. Hawaiian, semi-classical and pop. After leaving KMA, they were booked into many cities around the country.

From 1943 until 1958, Margaret and Helen entertained servicemen at veterans' hospitals and played with USO units all over the world: all 50 states, Newfoundland, Labrador, Greenland, Iceland, Guam, Philippines, Islands of the Pacific, Paengyang Do and Cheju Do in the Yellow Sea, Germany, Austria and the Azores.

Later, Margaret and Helen each played with other musicians in many entertainment centers in this country. Some of the outstanding artists with whose units she toured were: Bob Hope, Duke Ellington, George Goebel, and Elvis Presley. For about five years, Margaret and Helen each performed on organ, each pulling their instrument from place to place In a trailer behind their respective cars.

In retirement. Mrs. Tavora lives with a long- . time friend, Gretchen Simmons, a Nebraska native, in a home on Summit Avenue, where Margaret's parents lived for five years prior to their deaths in 1960, which occurred six days apart: George's on November 14 and Mabel's on November 20.

Margaret continues to play with groups who entertain residents in retirement homes and care centers. Submitted by Margaret Tsvora

ABRAM AND AMELIA TEACHOUT

Abram Edward Teachout was born near North Royalton, Cuyahoga County, Ohio December 11, 1849, youngest son, Joseph and Catherine (Coates) Teachout. The Teachout family is of Dutch ancestry and the Coates family came from Kirklevington, Yorkshire, England in 1802. Both families lived in New York State before moving to Ohio. TEETERS FAMILY

Family history has been a hobby o f mine for many years and the Teeters family of Page County one of my favorite lines of research. Reading the old "History of Page County" by Kershaw, was very Interesting, as It told of the many hardships of the first settlers.

My great-great-grandfather, Jeremiah A. Teeters. his wife, Elizabeth Gammell Teeters and three children were some of the first settlers of Page County. According to Kershaw's history, they and her father , Eberhardt Frederich Gammell, a native of Wurtemmberg, arrived In 1844. Frederich Gammell and family settled in nearby Taylor County. Gammell was the first immigrant to receive his citizenship papers from the Page County court in 1851.

Eight more children were born in Page County, with some descendants still residing there. Allied family names are: Raynor; Gladden; Miller; Wychoff; Staffords; Allen; Flinn and Shoults. Jeremiah sold his land in East River Township In 1880 and passed away in 1888. He and his wife are Interred at Old Memory Cemetery.

The oldest son, John, born In Ohio a short time before removing to Page County, married In 1862. Lois Murlati Raynor, daughter of Joseph and Julia Raynor, was born in Orange County,

New York. before moving to Perry County, Ohio. They came to Page and Taylor County in 1859.

Six of the eight children of John and Lois Teeters were born In Page County. They acquired land in Ringgold County in 1875. My grandfather, Miles Vendeer Teeters, was their oldest son, and spent much of his life in Page and Taylor Counties, Iowa and In Harrison and Worth Counties, Missouri. He married Marietta Turner in 1889 and several of their children were born in Ringgold County.

John and Lois lived in Ringgold County until the 1920's where they are Interred at Kellerton Cemetery. Many descendants live in the area at this time. Submitted by Pearl E. Wolf

Dale Thomas Family Kevin, Bradley, Susan, Dale and Marian

The Thomas family lived and worked on several different farms In the Coin area while Dale was growing up. As a boy, he helped his father with the chores and often drove the tractor after school hours. He dreamed of owning his own farm someday and raising cattle.

Dale attended both elementary and high school in Coin. He was graduated from high school in 1956 at the age of 17. He worked for a fertilizer company that summer to help make money so he could go to college. He enrolled at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville. Missouri that fall . He went one semester and then transferred to AI"QeS. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree In Animal Science.

On August4, 1957, Dale married Marian Elizabeth Waldron at the United Methodist Church In Coin. Marian was born May 15, 1936 on her great aunt Elva Turnbull's farm north of Essex. She was the daughter of George Murrell Waldron and Virginia Geraldine (Wooden) Waldron. She attended grade school at the La Prairie country school, junior high at Northboro and high school at Coin. The highlight of her junior year was when she and her teammates played and won their way to the Girls Iowa State BasketbaliTournament In Des Moines In 1955.

After graduation from high school, Marian went to work for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Shenandoah as a telephone operator. She transferred to Boone and then to Ames while Dale was attending college. After Dale's graduation, she transferred back to Shenandoah where she continued to work until their second chlld was born.

Dale and Marian moved to a rented farm west of Coin where they lived until they and Dale's parents bought the Frank Howrey place in 1961. Dale worked very hard to conserve and improve his farm land. He spent a lot of time and money
