The DangerIntermittent flow, e.g. after emptyinga tank, can be dangerous for thebearings of common magneticcoupled pumps: The remainingliquid is evacuated outwards as ina centrifuge, resulting in the innerbearings running dry. Often this canresult in complete pump destruc-tion.
The SolutionThe MONSUN rotor bearings arelocated at the outermost radius. Incases of intermittent flow, thebearings always possess enoughremaining liquid for emergencylubrication. The pump will not bedestroyed and is able to runsmoothly. The heating of theremaining liquid can be monitoredand the pump stopped in an orderlyfashion.
ConceptMONSUN – a hermetic tightmagnetic coupled pump, which easily handles corrosive and dan-gerous liquids.

Version as closed-coupled pump
Magnetic rotorThe central component is themagnetic rotor with its fluid lubrica-ted bearings located at the casing wall, forming one unit with the impeller and containing no static seal. Hence, common inner shafts, sleeves, separation walls and even the axial bearings which are required on typical magnetic drive pumps can be removed. The axial position as well as the propulsion of the rotor is taken over by a new kind of magnetic coupling with a rotating force of 80 Nm. A brilliant solution!
Isolation shellAn isolation shell of silicon carbidecloses the pumps inner areahermetically from the environmentand separates both halves ofthe rotating magnetic coupling.Eddy current losses are notgenerated.
Bearings
Even for closed-coupled versions,the magnetic driver is supported ingreased-for-lifetime roller bearings.Locating the isolation shells ope-ning to the electrical driver’s side allows a broad bearing centre distance. An additional flywheel prevents the magnetic coupling’s tear-off during start-up of the ma-chine.
The closed coupled version isconstructed in such a way that themotors shaft is coupled to themagnetic driver within the pump.This allows easy assembly anddisassembly of the electrical driver,without the need for de-coupling ofthe magnetic drive.
Versions
The design version is indicatedwith two letters following the sizedesignation,e.g. MONSUN 32-200 NP
NP = Standard pump from UHMW-PE
NT = Standard pump from PTFE/PFA
FP = Closed-cpld. pump from UHMW-PE
FT = Closed-cpld. pump PTFE/PFA
The temperature limits of the availa-ble materials is dependant upon thepumped liquid and range between-40 °C and +165 °C.
