PLEASE SUPPORT 14th ANNUAL POST PROM ALL-NIGHT PARTY!

Dear Parents and Community Members:

HELP! We are starting to plan this year’s Post-Prom Lock-In Party and we need you! This party is planned by a group of volunteer parents and the SSC Student Council, and is the result of a year-long commitment of our time and effort. Even if you don’t have the time to assist with the planning and implementation of this event, we desperately need your financial support. Fundraising has become increasingly difficult; and, to make this night a success your donations (no matter how big or small) are essential.

What is the Post-Prom All-Night Party???SSC’s Post-Prom All-Night Party is a “Lock-In” that follows the Junior/Senior Prom. It provides our students with a safe, well-chaperoned night of food, fun activities, and valuable prizes. Last year, 126 students made the responsible choice to attend the Lock-In instead of a Post-Prom party where alcohol and drugs could be present!!!

Who can attend???All SSC juniors and seniors who attend the Prom are invited to the Post-Prom Party. Guest students may also attend if they are going to the Prom with an SSC Junior or Senior.

When, Where, and What???Saturday, April 27, from 11:55 pm – 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning at SSC High School. It is a fun-filled night of Board games, music, open gym, cards, movies, entertainment, endless supplies of food, and lots of valuable prizes!

How can you help???1. Encourage your child to attend the All-Night party! Parent support is key to student attendance.

2. Please call or email [email protected] if you are interested in helping with this year’s plans.

3. We accept all donations, big or small! We rely solely on donations from parents, area businesses, and various fundraisers held throughout the school year to make this event a success. We hope you will consider making a donation to support this event -- cash, checks, gift cards to local businesses, and gas cards are all welcome!!!

You may send your check (payable to ‘SSC Post-Prom’) to:

Standish-Sterling High School Attn: Julie O’Keefe2401 Grove Road

Standish, MI 48658

We would like to thank you in advance for considering this request for your time and your donations. We need lots of help to make this year’s Post-Prom All-Night Party a fun, safe alternative for our students. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Julie O’Keefe or Linda Benchley at the high school: 846-3660.

Sincerely,The Standish-Sterling Central

Student Council and the Post-Prom All-Night Party

We would like to congratulate Shay Sullivan for committing to extend her softball career at Albion College and Isabel Niernberg for committing to extend her softball career at Delta College, Gage Nelson for committing to extend his football career at Alma College and Dalton Neitzel for committing to extend his football career at Ohio Northern University. Congratulations and good luck at the next level! We would also like to congratulate Dylan Kolbiaz who took the district title and placed 2nd in Regionals in wrestling and now moves on to States at Ford Field. Good luck Dylan! Additionally, we would like to congratulate both the boys and girls bowling teams that qualified for the Regional tournament as well. To Ty Rosebrugh for qualifying for States and will be competing in Muskegon. We wish you all good luck! A big thank you goes out to E.J.D Transport for their monetary donation to our SSC Athletic Booster Club! Thank you so much! The SSC Athletic Booster Club scholarship applications are available for completion. Please visit the counselor’s office. We are very proud of the fact that we are able to provide these scholarships and look forward to reviewing the entries. Our Queen of Hearts raffle continues to grow each week! The numbers of weeks left in the raffle are dwindling down! In fact, the drawing will end 03/28/19! Please help build the pot by purchasing your tickets today! Last year we gave away over $8,000 to our lucky winner! Currently the jackpot stands around $5,000 so we are drastically behind. You can purchase tickets at the Granton Inn, Pine River Grocery, Myles & Sons Insurance (Standish), Smart Real Estate and several booster members have tickets as well. Thank you to our “regulars” that have been faithful supporters of this fundraiser from the beginning!

Billy Mack & the JukeJoint Johnnies Billy Mack is a great entertainer and one of the best voices on the Midwest rock & roll music scene today. Prior to performing with the JJJ’s, Billy toured nationally with the Starlight Drifters. Jimmy Kochans has been a drummer in the music business for years, playing television, cruise ships and various bands. Bass Guitarist Chuck Deuel is a veteran of the Detroit music scene, ranging from classical, pop, rock, blues, rockabilly and jazz. He has played in groups sharing the billing with Bob Seger, The Amboy Dukes and MC5. Sax and lead guitarist Scotty Clauser has been playing for years with the likes of The Roadhouse Dawgs, The Willies, The Breakmen, Sea Monkeys, plus many more. Rounding out the band on piano is Ed Rutkowsi, aka “Eddie the Pounder” who started performing jazz and rock & roll in the 1980s. With their combined experience, it’s no wonder that the driving energy of Billy Mack and his JukeJoint Johnnies gets everyone wrapped up in the fun of their infectious music!!! During this performance there will be prizes for best 50’s male and female costumes and best couple in a dance-off, so you don’t want to miss this fun gig!!! ____________________________________________________________________________

Sunday ~ November 11, 2018 ~ 2 p.m.

Gemini Twin brothers, San and Laz Slomovits — nationally known for their children’s music — return to the roots of their music: the classic songs of Pete Seger, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Come hear songs "If I Had a Hammer," "Blowing in the Wind," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," "Big Yellow Taxi," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," plus many more. Plan to sing along and reminisce with these fine musicians! ____________________________________________________________________________

Sunday ~ January 6, 2019 ~ 2 p.m.

Cornpone Cornpone — sometimes referred to as the Cornpone Collective Consciousness, defies description!!! The band plays music from just about anywhere their imagination takes them. From old classic country and western swing, to rock-a-billy and bluegrass, gypsy jazz and blues, along with parts not yet explored. Cornpone is always a surprise — especially to themselves! Never has a band consistently had so much fun while performing, and audience members cannot help but have fun along the way! ___________________________________________________________________________

Sunday ~ March 10, 2019 ~ 2 p.m.

Equinox Equinox is composed of six multi-talented musicians. All from Michigan’s Tri-Cities, this energetic band brings you Celtic music at its best. At the Celtic core of the band are traditional pipes, fiddle, flute, whistles, and concertina. By adding guitars, mandolin, Middle Eastern and West African percussion, the band expands this ancient music to new dimensions. Their repertoire ranges from The Irish Washerwoman and the tunes of O'Carolan, to hard driving arrangements of Ye Jacobites and Whiskey in the Jar. Equinox creates a musical experience that has the proverbial "glass" full to the rim with energy!!!

Sportsmanship checklist for students and adultsSportsmanship is the ability to win without gloating, lose without complaining and treating your opponents with respect.

If you make a mistake, don’t pout or make excuses. Learn from it and be ready to continue to play. If a teammate makes a mis-take, offer encouragement, not criticism. If you win, don’t rub it in. If you lose, don’t make excuses.

Follow these guidelines for good spsortsmanship:

q Abide by the rules of the game. q Follow the directions of the coach.

qTry to avoid arguments. q Respect the other team’s effort.

qShare in the responsibilities of the team. q Encourage teammates.

qGive everyone a chance to play by the rules. qAlways play fair.

qAccept the judgement of the game’s officials. q End the game smoothly.
