There is, however, far more to Deal than traditional seaside

attractions. This is a town with three unique ‘character’ areas.

The High Street offers stylish shopping from many specialist

outlets as well as familiar names that include Marks & Spencer.

The Conservation area is recognised by its handsome

Georgian houses set in twisting lanes, together with the Astor

Theatre and Georgian Town Hall. Then there’s the seafront

and pier area, with its pleasant vistas and landmarks such as

the Time Ball Tower Museum and Deal Castle.

Deal promises to always offer something new to discover and

enjoy. The area boasts castles, gardens, quaint pubs, chic

cafés, art galleries, markets, live entertainment, well-equipped

parks, great coastal walks and interesting trails for walkers and

cyclists (there’s even an annual walking festival). Fowlmead

Country Park, just outside the town, is a popular outdoor

venue, while Tides Leisure Centre, Deal’s indoor tropical

lagoon, has something for everyone, including a health and

fitness suite and sauna for adults. Championship golf courses

are found along this stretch of coast.

As for culture, there’s the Astor Theatre for a varied

programme including plays and films, a small cinema in

Sandwich, and Deal’s calendar of musical festivals, art weeks

and carnivals.

This corner of Kent has many important visitor attractions,

including Dover Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Walmer Castle

and Gardens, Howletts & Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks, and

the new Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate.

All these attractions can be easily accessed from Stanhope

Place. Our development is ideally situated on Mill Road, about

a mile from the sea front and on bus routes. There’s a

supermarket in Mill Road and a Sainsbury’s not far away. Deal

station is also approximately a mile away, for Southeastern

Railways’ network. Destinations include the ‘International’

stations Ashford, Ebbsfleet, London St Pancras and Stratford

(DLR). The journey to London St Pancras, as an example, can

take as little as 1 hour 40 minutes. There are also rail services

to many other towns in Kent. And of course, living here means

fast access to the Continent via the Channel Tunnel or ferry.

Deal lies on the A258 and links a few miles south with the

A2/M2. The car journey to central London or Heathrow Airport

averages two hours, and to Gatwick or London City in about 1

hour 75 minutes. Alternatively, there are National Express

coaches to London Victoria coach station.

Everyday living at Stanhope Place is simplified by close

proximity to schools and health care.

The nearest schools for younger children include The Downs

Church of England Primary, St Mary’s Catholic Primary and

South Deal Primary, while the options for older children include

Walmer Science College, Castle Community School and

Sandwich Technology School.

There are five GP practices within walking distance, and the

nearest main NHS hospital is the Kent & Canterbury, off New

Dover Road near Canterbury.
