From the Desk of Mr. Sefcik and Mrs. Peters... Thank you to everyone who supported our 4th Annual Day of Service! As a district, we collected $44,140.00 for our PTA that will benefit every student in District 114. Together, we performed service at 15 locations throughout our community, participated in service projects for Project Linus, Lilac Apartments, local animal shelters, Feed My Starving Children, Beautify Fox Lake, and celebrated our success with a fun-filled picnic that included games, dancing, and team building. October 1, 2018 Dear Parents and Guardians of Stanton School Students, It is time to begin scheduling Student-led Conferences at Stanton School. Conferences for all students in 5-8 grades will be held on Thursday, October 25 from 2:00 - 9:00PM and Friday, October 26 from 8:00-Noon. (Dismissal on Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25 is at 1:30 and there is no student attendance on Friday, October 26) Once again, Stanton School will be using Skyward Family Access to schedule Student-led conferences. By using this feature, you will have the opportunity to view your child’s FLEX advisor teacher’s conference schedule, check availability, and sign up for a 20 minute conference. It is very important that each student have a parent/guardian present. If you cannot attend, perhaps you could send another family member, close friend, or other significant person in your child's life. Below are step by step directions for scheduling your student led conference:

1. Visit www.d114.org and select the Skyward Family Access link. 2. Log into Family Access using the username and password. (If you need assistance with accessing the

system, please call the school office.) Click the Conferences link located on the left sidebar. 3. Once loaded you will see all of your children’s names. To begin the scheduling process, start with one

of your children by selecting the All Conferences link next to their name. 4. Next you will need to click the Select a Time link. A pop up window will appear with all of the available

appointment times. Simply click the Select Link next to the appointment time that works for your schedule.

5. Your appointment has not yet been scheduled. A confirmation window will appear. Click the Save Button to confirm your appointment.

6. Once you have saved your appointment, your conference will be scheduled and viewable within Skyward Family Access by selecting the View Scheduled Times link.

7. If you would like to print out your conference time click the link Print All Scheduled Conferences. If you do not have access to the internet, please call your child’s FLEX Advisor teacher to schedule your conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for genuine teamwork involving parents, teachers, and students. Sincerely, Mr. Sefcik and Mrs. Peters

If you would like to schedule a separate

conference with your child's social worker

please contact Mrs. Rendon at 847.973.4237

As parents, you can do a lot to help your children learn healthy eating habits and maintain a healthy weight. Incorporating more Fruits and Vegetables into your family’s diet is a great place so start!

Get the most for your money from fruits and veggies by following these tips:

Plan ahead! Sit down during the weekend and write out a few meals that you can cook

during the upcoming week, then make your grocery list based off of the ingredients you need

for those meals. If you have a plan, you’re more likely to stick to it rather than pre-packaged

or take-out foods that are less healthy and cost more.

They don’t always have to be fresh! Incorporate frozen, canned, or dried fruits

and veggies into meals. They are just as nutritious and they last longer, too.

Keep those staples in stock! Having foods you cook with frequently (herbs/spices,

pastas, bread, rice, butter, eggs, canned/frozen fruits and veggies, etc) will cut down on

those last minute trips to the store, saving you time and money.

Buy In Season! Fresh fruits and veggies are typically cheaper when they are in

season.

Buy more! When fruits and veggies are on sale, stock up. Make an extra casserole

with them & freeze it so you have something ready to pop in the oven on a busy night.

Don’t Shop Hungry! You’ll be more likely to make those impulsive buys.

Comparison Shop! The bigger size is not always the best price.

Most importantly, involve your kids in meal planning, preparation, and cooking. Involving kids is a great way to motivate them to try new foods, eat healthier, and is a good way to spend time together as a family.

If you recently received a letter stating that your student(s) does

not comply with the Illinois State Board of Education regarding

their medical information, please turn in the proper paperwork as

soon as possible. If the required paperwork is not turned in by

October 15, 2018 your student(s) will not be permitted to

attend school until their paperwork is turned in and they are in

compliance. Thank you for your cooperation!

Lanners at

have any questions.

Please consider purchasing some extra items for the Grant Township Food Pantry on your next shopping trip.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stanton’s Annual Food Drive Begins October 22

Items the food pantry can always use are peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit, beef stew, canned pasta, Manwich, canned chili, pancake mix and syrup, cake mixes and frosting, canned tuna and salmon, cereal, toilet paper, Kleenex, and other toiletries. Donations should be given to your

child’s 1st hour teacher.

Rainbow Lab

Students in Ms. Soderstrom’s 6th grade Science class worked diligently during their recent rainbow lab. They began the lab with three cylinders of colored

water and had to follow procedures exactly in order to get the correct colors in the correct order. Students

also had to measure out the correct amount of water to get the new color. During the lab, students learned if they followed the exact procedures and made precise

measurements, they could create a rainbow out of just three colors.
