Introduction to STaR Chart• The STaR Chart was developed to cover the

four areas of the Long Range Plan for Technology 2006-2020.

• It is designed to help campuses and districts see their progress of meeting the goals of the long range plan for technology as well as meeting the goals of the district.

• Data is used to report progress of districts toward the requirements of NCLB. (www.tea.state.tx.us/starchart)

District Data• Because my campus is only in its second year, here is data for the

district.• 2006-2007

– All areas were developing this year. You can tell that technology was not a top priority.

• 2007-2008– This year every area was advanced. This was the year that the district

implemented new technology into the classrooms and everyone was excited to use it.

• 2008-2009– Once again all areas were advanced across the district. The new

technology seems to be working.• 2009-2010

– Two areas dropped into the developing while two areas stayed in advanced. I can contribute this to the teachers losing interest in the technology from several years ago, and wanting to learn something new.

Campus Data• Our campus was new the 09-10 school year so

that is the first year of data we have for the STaR Chart.

• We were developing in Educator Preparation and advanced in all other areas.

• Contributions to developing area of Educator Preparation is the lack of professional development days for technology. More stress was put on core class information rather than technology in the classrooms so that our students would pass the TAKS test.

Summary• In conclusion, it is imperative that school districts

continue to stress the importance of technology education to their teachers and students. Technology is the wave of the future and if you do not keep up you will be left behind not knowing how to navigate through the technological world. Districts have to keep offering professional development to teachers and stress that we have to use technology in the classrooms. There is not excuse to not learn how to become technology savvy. Those who are resistant to learning new things may have to find other jobs because it is our job as an educator to know the most up to date data and be able to use it in our classrooms for our students.
