NEWS Industry News STAR GETS NEW MBB BO 105 Southern Tier Air Rescue (STAR) (Ithaca, NY), formed to complement and support 15 counties' existing emergency medical service (EMS) ground ser- vices, re- ceived its new BO 105 CBS in June and began operations in July. The program, operated by Omni- flight Helicopters,Inc., is supported by a consortium of three area hospitals: Tompkins Community Hospital in Ith- aca, Arnot-Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, and United Health Services in Binghamton. A projection of three hundred missions during the first year of service has been made. NEW OWNERS TAKE OVER AIR AMBULANCE SYSTEMS Daedalus, Inc., a privately held South Dakota corporation, has pur- chased Air Ambulance Systems and Business Aviation (Sioux Falls, SD). Air Ambulance Systems, one of the nation's largest manufacturers of fixed-wing air ambulances, has con- verted 23 airplanes into intensive care air ambulances since 1977 and has just put the finishing touches on a Cessna Citation for Air Express A/S (Oslo, Norway). Officers of Daedalus (Sioux Falls, SD) are: Dale Froehlich, president and general manager; Bill Rush, vice pres- ident; and Linda Barker, secre- tary/treasurer. CAREFLITE PURCHASES FOUR BELL 222'S CareFlite-Dallas and CareFlite-Fort Worth in Texas have purchased four Bell 222 Utility Twins from Bell Heli- copter Textron. The first helicopter was delivered in June, with the others to arrive a few months after. AIR RESCUE STARTS SERVICE WITH BO-105 CBS AIR RESCUE, a hospital-based program that is part of the Willis- Knighton Health System, has begun serving a 150-mile radius of Shreve- port, Louisiana and has as its target 30 to 40 flights per month. Using the MBB BO-105 CBS, a nurse/paramedic team will be flown for scene responses, while a nurse/re- spiratory therapist team will handle interhospital transfers.
