March 3, 2019 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Gospel today reminds all of us Christians to live a life pleasing to God, a life patterned after the consistent life of Jesus. He practiced what he preached. Jesus strongly criticized hypocrisy; the inconsistent living of one’s covenantal relationship with God and he directs this message not to the Pharisees but to his own disciples. This message is also addressed to us, his present-day disciples and he gives us a hint how we can do this, by accepting the kingdom “like a child,” no ifs and buts. Let us pray for the humility to live lives pleasing to God our Father by following Jesus’ example of unconditional and total love. Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen.

2019 Annual Diocesan Appeal: Building Our Family of Faith
A Letter from Our Bishop
Welcome to the 2019 Annual Diocesan Appeal
~ Building Our Family of Faith.
Last week, many of you received a letter from Bishop Knestout asking for your support of the 2019 Annual Diocesan Appeal. We hope you will give prayerful consideration to this request.
I am asking for your support in our 2019 Annual Diocesan Ap-peal. An important aspect of the Appeal is that all parishes re-ceive back a portion of their funds collected to be used for im-portant local priorities. This year, the funds returned to our parish will be used to replace one of the HVAC units in the parish hall ($10,000).
The Appeal not only provides an opportunity for you to support our parish, it also supports the services the Diocese provides di-rectly to our parish, like assistance through the Fuel and Hunger Fund grants and to retired or international priests who share here in worship.
With a grateful heart, I hope all parishioners of Star of the Sea will join with us this year to accomplish our goal. Please know that whatever level you contribute; your gift will be most humbly received.
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Rev. Barry C. Knestout

JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM
What is Eucharistic Adoration? Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. We as Catholics believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus remains in the Tabernacle. For Eucharistic Adoration, Our Lord is taken from the Tabernacle and placed in a Monstrance on the Altar, so all may adore Him and spend time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"
The priest uses a humeral veil for the blessing with the Mon-strance so that his hands do not touch the Monstrance…this is symbolic that Jesus and not the priest is blessing the people.
Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]
