The initial research phase included Internet research to see examples of creative work of Sit+Store furnitures, research on seating furnitures, research on ergonomics (Metric Handbook) and doing some sketches for the design ideas.

The first 2 examples was offering clear store areas while the last 2 examples was more appropriate for long time seating. Finally, I decided to develop someting completely different than the examples I saw; a furniture that has a clear store area while offering a comfortable seat for long times.

My inspiration for this project is park benches. I like sitting or reading on bench so much because it’s comfortable, invite people to sit and read. Bench is also suitable for 2-3 people to sit together and socialize.

Reading ParkSit + Store Unit

I decided to create a bookshelf that looks like a bench, encourage people to sit and read, comfortable and suitable to sit long hours.

I tried to design a simple, creative and comfortable sit+store unit. It’s composed from a bench unit and shelves and it’s look like a park bench when you look from front.

When it’s fully outside, the bench can offer a comfortable sitting area with horizontal shelves above. The bench unit is moveable, it saves from space when out of use.

Back SupportThis module serves both as “magazine shelf” and

back support. The horizantal shelves are designed to create an

angular form to gurantee a comfortable sitting.

Cloth TreeThis module serves both as “magazine shelf” and

back support. The horizantal shelves are designed to create an

angular form to gurantee a comfortable sitting.

The BenchThis is a moveable module

on lockable wheels that serves both as bench and bookshelf. It’s made from wood slats, easy to move,

lightweighted and has curves on sitting area to enhance ergonomy. It can easily be

moved in and out.
